Tamar Ilana & Ventanas: Mediterranean Music & Flamenco Dance

Tamar Ilana & Ventanas present their third album, MISTRĀL. Named for the wind that traverses the Mediterranean, the title alludes to the migrations of the Sephardic and Romani people over the centuries. A four-time nominee for the Canadian Folk Music Awards, Ventanas reimagines Mediterranean melodies and flamenco grooves with “potent, vibrato-drenched vocals” (DownBeat) and “bristling oud solos” (New York Music Daily).

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Tamar Ilana & Ventanas is a six-piece Toronto-based ensemble fronted by powerhouse vocalist and dancer Tamar Ilana and featuring the city’s finest global musicians. Drawing inspiration from such legendary artists as the Silk Road Ensemble, Paco de Lucía, and Yasmin Levy, they reimagine Mediterranean melodies and flamenco grooves, and mix contemporary interpretations of ancient ballads with original compositions.
