ShadowLight Presents: 7 Visions
Shadow Theater Meets Día de los Muertos
Join us at Red Poppy for a special screening of “7 Visions of Encarnacion” (2002), followed by an artist talk and Día de los Muertos-inspired live music!
7 Visions is a shadow theater film that blends live-action puppetry, narration, and music to explore themes of cultural identity and spiritual awakening. Written by acclaimed playwright Octavio Solis and directed by shadow master Larry Reed, the story follows a young monk in San Francisco’s Mission District as he experiences a series of surreal visions that reconnect him to his Latino roots. The original music, composed by Richard Marriott and performed by the duo Cascada de Flores, fuses traditional Mexican folk with original compositions that underscore the dreamlike and emotional journey of the protagonist. The screening will be followed by an artist talk and live musical selections from the original soundtrack.
Featuring:
Larry Reed – Director, Artist Talk
Moja – Masked shadow performer of Encarnación (featured in film)
Cascada de Flores (Arwen Lawrence & Jorge Liceaga) – Live musical performance
