Family Art ft. Special Guest Artist Carlos Cartagena
September 7, 2019 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
FreeFamily Art returns to Red Poppy Art House with instructor Sofia Elias! On Saturday, September 7, we’ll be kicking off our weekly free art happenings with a visit from the wonderful artist Carlos Cartagena, who will be sharing his project Silhouettes with the community.
Cartagena will set up his art tables on the sidewalk and work with children and adults who walk by the Poppy, engaging in conversations with neighbors and inviting them to become part of the creative process of the silhouette pieces that he is creating. The conversation will focus on the situation with the children who are stuck in Tijuana and for the children who have been separated from their parents and are now in the U.S. border prisons.
During that afternoon, SF Youth Theatre will also be holding their annual free Open House where students can take mini classes in acting, story theatre, and auditioning. Visit sfyouththeatre.org for more information.
Family Art classes will continue weekly on Saturday afternoons through Thanksgiving. To learn more about the Poppy’s current exhibition, Silhouettes eMOTION, visit our Exhibitions page.
