Workshop: Writing and Painting with the Ancestors

One thing that is certain is that we all have ancestors. In fact, we are made of them, our biologies suffused with their characters and qualities. This 6-hour workshop is the first of a new series that Todd will be teaching in coming months, relating artistic practice to investigations of self and ancestry. With exercises based on his last three years’ work on an interdisciplinary project called Teobi’s Dreaming, this workshop is designed to combine writing practices with mixed media painting techniques as a way of inquiring into the complexities of our individual lives beyond the narrow definitions by which we are often defined. The workshop will involve varied writing exercises, the results of which are introduced into the painting surface and continued through successive layers. Todd will be offering this same workshop again on May 24th.
