Therianthrope: Tabla, Nylon String Guitar & Live Looping

$10 – $15A duo consisting of nylon string guitarist Dusty Brough and tabla percussionist Miles Shrewsbery, Therianthrope draws from various musical influences and traditions including jazz, flamenco, classical Indian and Romani music.

Based in San Diego, guitarist Dusty Brough brilliantly integrates his roots in flamenco with jazz, folk, Romani, Brazilian, Balkan music. His nylon string guitar playing is marked by an agile technique that supports a buoyant aesthetic. As a composer, Dusty seamlessly combines harmonies, intricate rhythms and improvisation with a fluidity that can be compared to the rolling waves of the ocean.
Miles Shrewsbery is an American tabla artist and co-owner of Avaaz Records. A student of Sri Abhiman Kaushal and Pandit Nandkumar Bhatlouande of Hyderabad, India, Miles is trained in the Farukhabad Gharana, a prominent playing style of North Indian tabla drums. He has performed all over the world in prestigious venues such as Symphony Space, the Smithsonian Museum (Washington D.C.), Tokyo Museum of Modern Art, The Royal Horticultural Halls, and St. Paul Cathedral (NYC). Currently, Miles is an artist/teacher-in-residence for the Center for World Music in San Diego, CA.
