THE MASH POTANGOS: Tango Collides With Potatoes In Space
November 10, 2011 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
$12 – $15The Mash Potangos is a versatile ensemble drawn from the passion and desire of the tango. An acoustic trio formation – flute, piano and bass – they perform the full-spectrum of tango music, as well as new compositions inspired by Latin music. Equally well received in concert halls, jazz clubs and tango dance halls, the trio has collaborated with local musicians, tango and contemporary dancers to stage a number of inter-arts performances across North America. The Mash Potangos were recipients of a Canada Council grant to be artists-in-residence at the Banff Centre, and were recently nominated in the ‘Best World’ music category for the 2011 Barrie New Music Fest awards.
Elisse Kleiner: flute
Jake K. Leckie: double bass
Rosabel Choi: piano
“Open your ears to this bright group and you’ll find the warmth, joy, and lovely madness of the Tango rushing in. Patience, precision and enthusiasm are foremost on this brief though eclectic recording. It’s like Santa came down your chimney with a big bag of tango-love and it’s not even Christmas!” ~Adam Kinner, Montreal jazz journalist
