The Broken Shadows & Special Guest Kasey Knudsen

A complete departure from his previous work, trumpet/composer Darren Johnston (The Nice Guy Trio, The Darren Johnston Quintet), has formed the Broken Shadows, an earthy, rootsy ensemble, although the roots from which they stem are difficult to pin down. They feature Johnston on vocals over danceable grooves, horn solos, the intensely rhythmic and adventurous bass work of David Ewell, and the boom and the clack of Marco Peris’ tupan drum. This concert will also feature the unmistakably unique melodic approach of local sax innovator Kasey Knudsen. One part jazz, one part Balkan music, one part country, and more… this is guaranteed to be an exciting evening of soulful songs, story-telling, and a new organic fusion of music that defies category.
