DESCRIPTION:Lithuanian singer Viktorija Gečytė and American double-bassist Gene Perla have been enchanting audiences for the past 10 years\, touring the U.S. and Europe. Their music springs from the Great American Songbook\, including jazz standards\, original compositions\, and rarely performed musical gems.\n \nFEATURING:\nViktorija Gecyte – vocals\nGene Perla – double bass\nSean Gough – piano\nJon Arkin – drums\n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nViktorija Gečytė started her singing career as a child television star in her native Lithuania. After graduating from Lafayette College in the United States\, she settled down in Paris where she performs regularly at jazz clubs and festivals. Elegant\, swinging\, and sophisticated beyond her years\, Gečytė bears comparison with the greats. She has great phrasing\, impeccable timing\, a low velvet voice with smoky hues\, and hits every note on the button. \nRaised in New Jersey\, Gene Perla studied classical piano and trombone. After attending Berklee School\, he moved to New York and performed with Chick Corea\, Miles Davis\, Dizzy Gillespie\, Woody Herman\, Elvin Jones\, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra\, Joni Mitchell\, Buddy Rich\, Sonny Rollins\, Nina Simone\, Frank Sinatra\, and Sarah Vaughan. Perla formed publishing and record labels and toured South America for six months with Steve Grossman and Don Alias. Pineda writes original songs and arrangements in which she combines her South American grooves with modern jazz. Co-leading the ensemble is drummer Zach Mondlick\, who hails from Berkeley\, California. From Aichi\, Japan\, Shimpei Ogawa has been quickly recognized as one of the Bay Area’s top bassists. Pianist Morgan Maudiére rounds out the quartet\, bringing all that is modern and tasteful from the cutting-edge world of European jazz and her native Sedan\, France.
