DESCRIPTION:The Poppy is proud to present the inaugural collaboration between jazz harpist Destiny Muhammad\, trumpeter/composer Darren Johnston\, and bassist Giulio Xavier\, three longtime contributors to the Bay Area music scene. Expect fresh takes on jazz standards\, some premieres of original music\, and selected covers from around the globe. \n \nFEATURING:\nDestiny Muhammad – harp\, vocals\nDarren Johnston – trumpet\, vocals\nGiulio Xavier – bass \n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nPerformer\, bandleader\, producer\, and jazz harpist Destiny Muhammad‘s “Celtic to Coltrane” sound is cool and eclectic\, with a feel of jazz and storytelling to round out the sonic experience. She has opened for The Oakland East Bay Symphony and Gerald Albright\, and has shared the stage with Marcus Shelby\, Omar Sosa\, Ambrose Akisemuire\, and Azar Lawrence to name a few. \nTrumpeter\, composer\, bandleader\, and songwriter Darren Johnston is best known for his work with the Nice Guy Trio\, Darren Johnston Quintet\, and Broken Shadows. The MAQ’s modern compositions blend jazz harmony\, world rhythms\, and a chamber-music sensibility upon which the players of the quintet improvise.\n \nFEATURING:\nSascha Jacobsen – bass\nLewis Patzner – cello\nCharith Premawardhana – viola\nAnthony Blea – violin\nMichelle Walther – violin\n \nABOUT THE ARTIST:\nSascha Jacobsen has performed with Kronos Quartet\, Tommy Igoe\, Rita Moreno\, Hugh Jackman\, Martin Short\, Mandy Patinkin & Patti LuPone\, Marc Shaiman\, Bonnie Raitt\, Randy Newman\, Josh Groban\, Kristin Chenoweth\, Andrew Lippa\, Eddie Duran\, Dave MacNab\, Adam Theis\, and Tim Weed. In addition\, he has shared the stage with tango masters Raul Jaurena\, Pepe Motta\, Pablo Estigarribia\, and Maria Volonte; flamenco greats Chuscales\, Jose Luis Rodriguez\, and Juanito Pascual; as well as Grammy-winning artists Mads Tolling and Tupac Mantilla. Sascha is in demand as a performer\, composer\, and arranger with commissions from the San Francisco Arts Council\, San Jose Chamber Orchestra\, San Jose Dance\, San Jose Youth Symphony\, Berkeley Youth Symphony and SF Friends of Chamber Music.
