SUMMARY:Rebirth Canal: Latin/Vietnamese Jazz
DESCRIPTION:Rebirth Canal is a bold new ensemble led by pianist\, vocalist\, and composer Camille Mai. Featuring Bay Area heavyweights Ernesto Mazar Kindelán\, Marcelo Perez\, Daniel Riera\, and Ahkeel Mestayer\, their original music fuses lush neo-soul harmonies with Afro-Cuban and Brazilian rhythms\, overlaid with the microtonal undulations of Vietnamese folk music. Their next stop—Havana Jazz Festival 2020!\n \nFEATURING:\nCamille Mai – piano\, vocals\nErnesto Mazar Kindelán – bass\nMarcelo Perez – drums\nAhkeel Mestayer – percussion\nDaniel Riera – flute\, electronic wind instrument (EWI)\, synths\n \nABOUT THE ARTIST:\n“A pianist\, vocalist\, composer\, and leader of the band Rebirth Canal\, Camille Mai has created a protean body of songs infused with Latin American rhythms filtered through an abiding affection for the slinky grooves of the late\, pervasively influential producer J Dilla. But that’s just the rhythmic foundation of a sound that can encompass traditional Vietnamese modes\, jazz improvisation and harmonies\, French chanson and beyond” (Andrew Gilbert\, Berkeleyside). Mai was Resident Artist at Red Poppy Art House in 2014\, and has recorded with Grammy nominees/awardees John Santos\, Greg Landau\, and Nahuel Bronzini. \nLearn more: Facebook | YouTube \n  \nEVENT DETAILS\n \nTime: 7:00pm doors / 7:30pm show\nAdmission: (Online) $20-25 / (Door) $25 general\, $20 student & senior with valid ID\nNote: A limited quantity of additional tickets will be available for purchase at the door. \nPurchase advance tickets for this event:\nNote: Purchasing an advance ticket guarantees admission but does not guarantee seats.
