ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Their eclectic repertoire is inspired by the Nueva Cancion/Nueva Trova tradition of celebrating Latin American poetry and rhythms while educating about culture and pressing social issues. Featuring multi-faceted Puerto Rican vocalist/interpreter Madeleine Zayas and high caliber Bay Area musicians/educators natives from Puerto Rico, Perú, Brazil, Chile, and the US coming together to play original compositions and innovative arrangements of carefully selected classics from the Latin American/Caribbean songbook.
Their very ecclectic repertoire is influenced by Afro-Peruvian rhythms such as landó, zamacueca and festejo, marinera, Chilean cueca, Brazilian samba and maracatú, Argentinian sambas and chamamés, stylized plena, bomba and guaracha Puertorriqueña, son Cubano and boleros, all tied together with rhythmic precision and intertwined with jazzy flavors.
