Spectrums & Prisms, Bodies & Realms: Artist Reception w/ Lise Silva
April 30, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
FreeThe Poppy invites you to join the artist and curators behind its second exhibition of 2017, Spectrums & Prisms, Bodies & Realms, on view until June 24. For her first exhibition at the Red Poppy Art House, Lise Silva Gomes has created a fiber art installation that serves as a metaphysical exploration where woven knots of various shapes and colors invade the Red Poppy’s performative space, creating an ambiance of other-worldliness that evokes wonder, deep mystery, possibility, fantasy, and curiosity.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Lise Silva lives in Oakland and works from her studio in Berkeley. Her artistic practice is strongly influenced by meditation, mysticism, classic film, psychedelic illustration, Surrealism, and Art Deco design. She explores the power of symbols through her Sacred Knots line of fiber jewelry and wall hangings.
ABOUT THE CURATORS:
Musician, composer, and visual artist Zena Carlota is the executive artistic director of the Red Poppy; Elena Mencarelli, a visual artist, is currently collaborating with the Poppy as a lead host and art curator. Spectrums & Prisms, Bodies & Realms is the result of Lise, Elena, and Zena working together to realize the multidisciplinary vision of the Red Poppy Art House, a dynamic space where visual and performing arts, cultural diversity, and creativity come together to enrich community experience.
