Songs of Love and Struggle


Hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, Shareef Ali performs deeply lyrical songs of heartache and resistance. Poignant and revealing verse reminiscent of Leonard Cohen or Conor Oberst is set against a backdrop of American traditional music from folk to jazz to country to rock and roll.

Jonathan Ikkyu Hirsch is a poet, musician, and curator living in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco, California. He is a founding member of the chamber folk band Passenger & Pilot, which released its debut album The Calm Before in November of 2011. He established the quarterly Tenderloin Reading Series, and co-curates the Clattering Loom readings. He is a contributing writer at Asterisk SF Magazine, and his poems have most recently been published in the journals Sparkle & Blink and Syngergyzine.
