$20 – $25“A prime mover in the current Brooklyn jazz scene” (Time Out-New York) and “one of New Yorkʼs great jazz drummers and composers” (Capital New York), Rob Garcia brings his group to the Red Poppy playing his original music plus arrangements of American folk songs, as well as music by Chopin and Jimi Hendrix.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Rob Garcia continues to be a strong presence in the New York and international jazz scene as a sideman and bandleader. He has collaborated with such stellar artists as Joe Lovano, Sheila Jordan, Dave Liebman, Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall, Myra Melford, Joseph Jarman, Anat Cohen, Vince Giordano, Reggie Workman, Bill McHenry, and Wycliffe Gordon. Having played on over 70 albums—including Grammy winners—he has also released six critically acclaimed albums as a bandleader. His CD Perennial was in the “10 Best Jazz Albums of 2009” in the New York Observer, and his most recent album, Finding Love in an Oligarchy on a Dying Planet, includes special guests such as jazz legend Joe Lovano and vocal sensation Kate McGarry. Garcia has also been a major force in artist-run jazz organizations. He is the founder and artistic director of Connection Works, a member of the Brooklyn Jazz Underground, and a founding member of the Douglass Street Music Collective. (Photo by: April Renae)
