Ramana Vieira, described by Mundo Portugues newspaper as the “New Voice of Portuguese World Music,” has headlined the world’s largest Portuguese festival, the New Bedford Portuguese Feast in Massachusetts, and had her song “Unido Para Amar” played for the 2006 Winter Olympics opening ceremony. Ramana and her group perform traditional, ballad-style fados that pay homage to Amália Rodrigues, the “Queen of Fado,” as well as uptempo compositions from Vieira’s 2015 album, Fado Da Vida, which features three songs nominated for the International Portuguese Music awards. Her new work captures influences from the Portuguese diaspora in a musical tapestry that ranges from whispering, haunting ballads to collaborations featuring the works of famous Portuguese-Canadian poet Euclides Cavaco.
