August 15, 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
$10 – $15New Music for the Traveler’s Café
Inspired by musical traditions from around the world, the pickPocket ensemble inhabits a country all their own. Original, fresh and engaging, the pickPocket ensemble creates contemporary chamber café music that moves both body and soul. Though the origins remain nomadic, the music of the pickPocket ensemble sustains intensely personal and immediately engaging rhythms, inviting the listener to an intimate and ongoing conversation. PickPocket Ensemble has toured internationally, released 6 CD’s of original music, and have been featured in several films, as well as spotlights on NPR and public television.
Rick Corrigan- accordion, piano
Yates Brown- guitar, banjo
Rima Ash- violin
John Slattery- percussion
Matthew Souther- trumpet
Special guest Doralice will create exquisite instrumental acoustic miniatures for guitar and violin, providing a both cinematic and sensual element to the evening. An instrumental acoustic duo formed in San Francisco’s Mission District, they write and perform original chamber pieces inspired by film, culture and other esoteric instrumental music, with elements of Americana, gypsy, Spanish and tango.
“The pickPocket Ensemble incorporate violin, accordion, trumpet, guitar and banjo compositions, scored to complex, yet toe-tappingly vibrant time signatures that allow listeners to meander through European cities, become caught up in the winds above the Atlas Mountains and trace steps back to the strangely familiar lands of a foreign cinema soundtrack.” – Maverick Magazine
