On the first Saturday of every even month of the year\, the MAPP transforms ordinary spaces\, such as private garages\, gardens\, living rooms\, studios\, street corners\, and small businesses into pop-up performance and exhibition sites for a day/night of intimate-scale artistic and cultural exchange among a kaleidoscope of individuals and communities. \nWe will continue our work in presenting unique artistry to the communities that we serve. \nRED POPPY MAPP TEAM: \nArtistic Director | Managing Director: Dina Zarif  \nPR and Digital Marketing: Anjali Varma \nMAPP APRIL 5TH\, 2025 PROGRAM\n  \n  \n\n\n\n\nTime \n\nPerformance/Event\nDescription\n\nArtists \n\n\n\nExhibit: CORAZONES / HEARTS by Adrian Arias\n\n\n7:10 – 8:00 pm\nDiana Gameros\nOriginal tunes and songs from Latin America and beyond.\nDiana Gameros – piano\, guitar\, voice\n\n\n8:10 – 9:00 pm\nString and Skin\nNorth African-infused klezmer jazz improvisations\nMisha Khalikulov – Cello \nAaron Kierbel – Percussion \nArslen Metouii – Kanun\n\n\n9:10 – 10:00 pm\nDos Bandoleros\nSpanish Rumba with a Latin Twist\nAlberto Gutierrez – guitarist and singer \nRaúl Vargas – percussion\, vocals\n\n\n\n  \n  \nABOUT THE PERFORMING ARTISTS\n\nDiana Gameros\nOriginal tunes and songs from Latin America and beyond \nDiana will perform – on piano\, guitar\, and voice – original music written in Spanish and English and songs that uplift her Mexican and Latin American heritage. \nDiana Gameros is a singer\, songwriter\, and composer. She was born and raised in Juárez\, México\, and immigrated to the United States as a teenager. Over the last decade in the Bay Area\, she has released two albums of original songs written in Spanish and English and has been highlighted often by NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series. A documentary film about her was released by KQED in 2020. Her music tells stories of family\, migration\, and home\, and has led her to perform with other prominent performers such as Joan Baez\, Natalia Lafourcade\, and the San Francisco Symphony. Diana received the 2023 Music Award Grant from the Gerbode Foundation to record a new album at Women’s Audio Mission studio in San Francisco to be released in 2025. \nFollow her work on Instagram and Facebook! \n  \n\n\nString and Skin\nNorth African-infused klezmer jazz improvisations  \nString and Skin will take you on an improvised journey\, weaving melodies and rhythms from around the world. Together\, they create a dynamic\, spontaneous dialogue—sometimes tender and meditative\, other times fiery and exuberant—inviting the audience into a world without borders\, where music speaks beyond words. \nFeaturing:\nMisha Khalikulov – Cello\nAaron Kierbel – Percussion\nArslen Metouii – Kanun \nMisha Khalikulov is a San Francisco-based cellist and music educator. He has toured internationally and recorded four albums with Rupa and the April Fishes. He is also a member of StringQuake\, Vadalma\, and Baymele. \nAaron Kierbel has performed with acts like The Jazz Mafia\, Orchestra Gold\, and the SF Mime Troupe. He is also a founding member of Rupa and the April Fishes\, a globally touring band that played in over 30 countries during its 13-year journey. \nArslen Metouii is an SF-based kanun player\, music producer\, and composer originally from Tunisia. \n\n  \n\n\n\nDos BandOLEros\nSpanish Rumba with a Latin Twist \nImagine a late-night jam session where Rumba Flamenca legends like Peret and the Gipsy Kings gather after dinner. Suddenly\, the Buena Vista Social Club band joins in. With only Spanish guitars\, a cajón\, a kazoo\, and the rhythm of their hands\, they create an unforgettable fusion\, jamming and blending their unique styles into a night of music and fun that lasts until dawn. \nDos Bandoleros – Flamenco Rumba/Latin with a Rebel Spirit\nStraight from the heart of Madrid\, Dos Bandoleros is a fiery flamenco rumba duo that blends raw passion\, undeniable chemistry\, and a hint of outlaw charm. The duo is made up of Raúl Vargas\, the soulful percussionist and vocalist\, and Alberto Gutierrez\, the enigmatic guitarist and singer. Follow their work on Facebook and Instagram! \nFeaturing:\nAlberto Gutierrez – guitarist and singer\nRaúl Vargas – percussion\, vocals \nRaúl Vargas\, the biggest bandit\, crafts songs as effortlessly as he breathes—his creativity only rivaled by his ideals\, his talent only matched by the vastness of his soul. His heart is too big for this world\, yet somehow\, it finds its place in every rhythm he plays. \nAlberto Gutierrez\, a.k.a Muchacho Mandanga\, the minor bandit\, wields his guitar like a weapon of emotion\, effortlessly dancing on the edge of genius—always unintentionally\, of course. The heart is depicted as a dream\, a labyrinth\, and a space for connection and separation\, delving into the pain and hope tied to the organ that continuously beats like music within us. \n  \nABOUT THE ARTIST\n \nAdrian Arias (American born in Mochica Land in Peru) \nAdrian Arias is an international multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of visual arts\, poetry\, performance\, and social justice. A descendant of the Mochica culture of ancient Peru\, he embraces his culture’s use of dreams as a transformative catalyst between reality and imagination. Arias has created large-scale murals for public and private businesses such as Google and a three-story mural at the corner of Turk and Hyde in San Francisco\, commissioned by the Luggage Store. He has recently created murals for Magic Theater\, Freight & Salvage and Red Poppy Art House. The soulful and lively melodies in varied meters transport the listener to exotic lands and are often vehicles for improvisation. Leah Sirkin\, Tano Brock\, and Steven Brock are the core members of this family band from San Francisco.  \nLeah Sirkin has studied with master musicians and singers from Greece\, the Balkans\, and the Middle East for over two decades. She has performed with the Aswat Arabic Orchestra\, the Silk Road Caravan\, and Helm\, in addition to her family band\, Diaspora. \nTano Brock is a multi-instrumentalist who has studied and performed with master musicians from the Balkans\, Turkey\, and the Middle East. He leads the Sarma Brass Band in NYC\, among other projects\, performs regularly with Inspector Gadje and La Doña\, and is on staff teaching and leading the brass band and kids’ band at the Mendocino Balkan Camp. \nSteven Brock has been playing tabla for over thirty years\, studying with the master Swapan Chaudhury at the Ali Akbar College of Music. He has been playing and studying kanjira with two South Indian master musicians for the last decade. \nOriginally from Ukraine\, Zina Pozen grew up in a family of classical musicians\, playing piano from a young age. Zina plays klezmer\, Moldovan\, Ukrainian\, Turkish\, Armenian\, and Greek rebetiko with many Bay Area bands\, including the Saul Goodman Klezmer Band\, Orchestra Euphonos\, and Metanastys. \nJoe Rosato Jr. is a Bay Area upright bassist who has played with numerous musical luminaries\, including Lowell Fulson\, Ron Thompson\, Sugar Pie DeSanto\, Tim Weed\, and the Turkish band Lars and In Charge. In a career spanning four decades\, he’s proven himself a versatile sideman adeptly playing everything from bluegrass to jazz to Balkan. \nNicole Maria has been studying\, teaching\, and performing contemporary and traditional forms of Arabic dance for over a decade. A multiple award-winning dancer\, Nicole is known for being an engaging and charismatic entertainer\, for elevating the level of the art form\, and for her elegance and grace.
