In her work\, she combines both digital and traditional techniques\, her attention to the form of a letter or the shaping of a word places language and text at the tactile and metaphoric center of her work. Much of her visual poetry has been published and exhibited around the world. She currently lives and works in the Bay Area. His poetry and visual art have won awards and local and international recognition. It consists primarily of finger-style Spanish guitar interpolations of modern artists such as Radiohead\, Bjork\, Portishead\, Sade\, etc. blended with his unique live-looping style. Integrating aspects of jazz and flamenco to his guitar covers\, he brings forth sultry interpretations of inspiring songs from iconic artists.\n \n \n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nDescribed as spiritual and sensual\, Genie Santiago is a Boston based singer\, poet and visual artist. Her art draws from her experience growing up in poverty as a Queer Latina. Genie is unafraid to empower others to overcome trauma\, decolonize the mind\, promote sexual freedom\, and stray from the ideals of self-hatred that society places upon us. She can be found blessing many stages performing originals from her EP\, “Know Your Worth”\, and her newest single\, “Spirit Party”.\n \nFEATURING:\nGenie Santiago – lead vocals\nStephanie Houten – acoustic guitar and supporting vocals\nAnais Azul – cajon and supporting vocals\n \n \n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nPeruvian first generation immigrant Anaís Azul (they/them) is a Bay Area based singer-songwriter\, composer\, and teaching artist. Described as “stunningly honest and vulnerable\,” their artistry engages with music as a tool for community building\, cross-genre collaboration\, and collective healing. Anaís writes music that is in conversation with jazz harmony\, classical melodies\, and Latin American singer-songwriter traditions. Their songs are bilingual (Spanish and English) and primarily about mental health and queer love. DESCRIPTION:Fula Brothers are a high-spirited meeting of veteran performers from West Africa and America\, each with a history of innovation and collaboration with some of the beloved musicians of these cultures. Together they weave West African hunter’s harp\, fingerstyle guitar\, drums\, vocals\, and a bounty of improvisation into an ecstatic groove-based dialogue which the heart\, and the feet\, cannot resist.\n \nFEATURING:\nMamadou Sidibe – kamale ngoni (hunter’s harp)\nWalter Strauss – guitar\n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nMaster kamale ngoni player Mamadou Sidibe is from the Wassoulou Region of Mali\, West Africa. Twenty-five years ago\, Sidibe played a groundbreaking role in the transformation of this region’s music from its origins in hunters’ sacred melodies–played on six-string donso ngoni (hunter’s harps)–to a music of philosophical observations\, politics\, and daily life. Sidibe has won several awards for songwriting including the Billboard World Music Award and the John Lennon Songwriting competition. \nFingerstyle guitarist Walter Strauss’ multi-layered style draws on American roots\, jazz\, classical\, and cultural guitar traditions\, but what makes his playing utterly distinctive is how it is informed by other global stringed instruments. DESCRIPTION:This collaboration between two world-class musicians from Iran brings their lifetime experience in music and art through their heart and friendship. Pezhham Akhavass and Navid Kandelousi will create moments and flow of traditional\, folk\, and modern Persian music rooted in radif—a collection of Iranian melodies in the modal system—and poetry based on circle rhythmic patterns.\n \nFEATURING:\nPezhham Akhavass – tombak\, daf\nNavid Kandelousi – kamancheh\, violin\n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nPezhham Akhavass is a world-class percussionist and modern-day virtuoso of Persian percussive instruments tombak and daf. His studies in youth music theory and tombak began at the age of five\, and with the support of his father\, he studied tombak with Naser Farhang Far and Saeid Roudbary. Akhavass worked professionally in his 20s with the renowned Persian vocalist Shahram Nazeri from 2000-2007. He has since recorded and performed with many master world-class musicians such as Hossein Alizadeh\, Aliakbar Moradi\, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. In addition to tombak and daf\, Akhavass is knowledgeable about Persian instruments setar\, tambour\, and oud\, and has studied Indian tabla under the guidance of Ostad Zakir Hussain. Currently residing in San Francisco\, he works on different productions and projects\, teaches private lessons\, and gives lectures and demonstrations in Persian music and performances. \nNavid Kandelousi began studying music on the violin at the age of six. He studied Western classical music in Italy (Verdi Conservatory) and Moscow. Since 1999\, he has performed as a soloist in the Iranian National Orchestra and has been invited as an international violinist in many symphonies around Europe. Kandelousi has played the main violin repertoire of Paganini\, Beethoven\, Sibelius\, Mozart\, and Tchaikovsky. DESCRIPTION:Brazilian guitarists Ricardo Peixoto and Julio Lemos join forces to explore classic sambas\, choros\, bossa novas\, as well as some original compositions.\n \nFEATURING:\nRicardo Peixoto – guitar\nJulio Lemos – guitar\n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nOriginally from Rio de Janeiro\, guitarist\, composer\, and arranger Ricardo Peixoto came to the Bay Area by way of a scholarship to Boston’s Berklee College of Music. He has performed throughout the U.S.\, Europe\, Canada\, Japan\, and Brazil with artists such as Claudia Villela\, the Berkeley Choro Ensemble\, Flora Purim and Airto\, Paul McCandless\, Bud Shank\, Dom Um Romão\, Sivuca\, Toots Thielemans\, Dori Caymmi\, Guinga\, Arturo Sandoval\, and Terra Sul among others. His 2019 release\, Scary Beautiful\, received a DownBeat Editor’s Pick. \nJulio Lemos is professor of music at the Federal University of Goias\, Brazil\, where he received a master’s degree in guitar. He is now working on his PhD at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and at SF State. Lemos has performed in Brazil and throughout South America\, Europe\, the U.S.\, and China. His group Brasil in Trio released records in 2014 and 2019. The latter\, Brasil in Trio interpreta Jarbas Cavendish\, features Carlos Malta\, Jarbas Cavendish\, and Arismar do Espirito Santo.
