She has opened for The Oakland East Bay Symphony and Gerald Albright\, and has shared the stage with Marcus Shelby\, Omar Sosa\, Ambrose Akisemuire\, and Azar Lawrence to name a few. \nTrumpeter\, composer\, bandleader\, and songwriter Darren Johnston is best known for his work with the Nice Guy Trio\, Darren Johnston Quintet\, and Broken Shadows. DESCRIPTION:Launched in 2003\, the Mission Arts & Performance Project (MAPP) is a homegrown bi-monthly\, multidisciplinary\, intercultural happening that takes place in the Mission District of San Francisco. On the first Saturday of every even month of the year\, the MAPP transforms ordinary spaces\, such as private garages\, gardens\, living rooms\, studios\, street corners\, and small businesses into pop-up performance and exhibition sites for a day/night of intimate-scale artistic and cultural exchange among a kaleidoscope of individuals and communities.\n \nRPAH SCHEDULE:\n7:30-7:50 – Misha Khalikulov & Elise Kwon\nCello & piano duo \n8:00-8:45 – StringQuake\nElectrifying & dynamic trio \n9:00-10:00 – Istanbul Connection\nBay Area Latin & Balkan grooves\n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS: \nCellist Misha Khalikulov and pianist Elise Kwon specialize in both classical and non-classical music that incorporates soulful\, elegant\, and sentimental arrangements. \n  \n \n \n  \nStringQuake uses unusual instrumentation—Amelia Romano on electric harp\, Misha Khalikulov on cello\, and Josh Mellinger on percussion—to explore far-flung sounds inspired by Greece\, India\, Africa\, and the Americas. With a penchant for improvisation and unexpected meters\, the group boasts a wide-ranging repertoire that runs the gamut from contemplative to vigorous. \n  \n  \n  \nIstanbul Connection is a musical collective formed by thirteen members of the hottest Balkan and Latin bands. With a mind towards cross-cultural connection and sonic expansion\, these musicians flew 7\,000 miles to Istanbul\, Turkey\, to represent a piece of the the Bay Area music scene. In the process\, they have cemented themselves as a supergroup of groove\, and since their epic beginnings\, the band has performed sold-out show after sold-out show. They continue to draw their inspiration from flamenco\, rumba\, cumbia\, Turkish maqam\, and Balkan music. Since 2009\, the Peruvian pair Alejandro y María Laura have continued to share deeply felt songs that span various themes. Their first two records\, Paracaídas (2011) and Fiesta para los muertos (2013)\, were produced by Matias Cella—producer of Jorge Drexler’s albums Amar La Trama and Cara B—and showcased the eclectic combination of the duo’s songwriting.
