DESCRIPTION:Music\, poetry\, history\, and future converge powerfully when three poets–Tongo Eisen-Martin\, Bonnie Kwong\, and Josiah Luis Alderete–explore themes of immigration\, migration\, language\, cultural identity\, social justice\, revolution\, and love through collaborations with guitarists Peck the Town Crier\, Oliver Mok\, and Eli Carlton-Pearson. \nFeaturing:\nLOAN (Tongo Eisen-Martin\, poetry; Peck the Town Crier\, guitar)\nContraband (Bonnie Kwong\, poetry; Oliver Mok\, guitar)\nFried Axolotl (Josiah Luis Alderete\, poetry; Eli Carlton-Pearson\, guitar) \nTongo Eisen-Martin is a movement worker\, educator\, and poet who has organized against mass incarceration and extra judicial killing of black people throughout the United States. His latest curriculum\, We Charge Genocide Again\, has been used as an educational and organizing tool throughout the country. \nPeck The Town Crier has been recording and performing “hist-hop” and “song-rap” since 1994. His music has been featured on MTV UK\, Current TV\, and the Wall Street Journal online. Peck teaches guitar in San Rafael and can often be found crying a capella on the corner of 16th and Mission. \nBonnie Wai-Lee Kwong is an artist in many mediums and languages: Cantonese\, English\, Mandarin\, Japanese\, Ruby\, and Javascript. Her first book of poetry\, ravel\, is a finalist for New Rivers Press’ Many Voices Project and the White Pine Press Poetry Prize. Her work has garnered a number of Pushcart nominations and an artist residency at Stanford University. \nJosiah Luis Alderete is a full-blooded Pocho Indio who refries his beans and poems in Spanglish. Ron Shalom presents songs from the peripheries of consciousness utilizing electronics\, video\, and storytelling. \nFeaturing:\nDina Maccabee – viola\, vocals\, laptop\nRon Shalom – guitar\, vocals \nDina Maccabee is a multifaceted string player\, songwriter\, composer\, and performer who was deeply involved in the Bay Area live music scene for many years. Best known locally for her work with Ramon & Jessica and Real Vocal String Quartet\, she has recently toured extensively with Julia Holter\, while putting creative energy into imagining her solo set. Her viola playing and vocals can be heard on records by Feist\, Vetiver\, Beats Antique\, We Are the West\, Vienna Teng\, Silian Rail\, Michael Musika\, Aaron Novik\, and many more. \nRon Shalom is a composer-instrumentalist and leader of the Cult of the Illuminated Orifice. After touring nationally and internationally\, she moved to San Francisco in 2007 and released her self-produced debut\, Beautiful Day. Parker and her handpicked band completed her second album\, Evolutionary Process\, while she earned studio time working as an engineer at Hyde Street Studios in 2013. The band’s infectious blend of funk\, rock\, and soul touched a nerve in Vancouver\, British Columbia on the radio station CHLY 101.7FM\, where the album debuted at No. 1 and was up for Album of the Year. DESCRIPTION:New York City-based musicians and visual artists Ali Dineen and Hannah Sassoon present an evening of music and shadow puppetry\, telling personal and historical tales of healing and resistance. They will perform original music\, including new songs from Ali’s recent album Light Comes In\, as well as selections from different folk music traditions with guitar\, accordion\, cello\, fiddle\, vocal harmony\, and harmonium. \nFeaturing:\nAli Dineen – vocals\, guitar\, accordion\, harmonium\nHannah Sassoon – vocals\, cello\, fiddle \nAli Dineen is a singer\, multi-instrumentalist\, and visual artist based in Brooklyn. She performs original\, acoustic folk music\, as well as songs from U.S. folk traditions\, and she incorporates historical and sociopolitical commentary into her work. Her music\, deeply personal and also political\, explores the intersections of personal stories with larger histories. In her work\, Ali navigates the forces that divide human beings and cause conflict\, and she seeks to dismantle them through honest lyricism and intimate acoustic music. She has worked with Bread and Puppet Theater as puppeteer and musician\, and performs regularly in NYC. \nHannah Sassoon is a visual artist\, multi-instrumentalist\, and environmentalist resistor living in Nashville\, TN.
