Michael Zilber: A Saxophonist’s Tribute to Jazz Greats

$10 – $20A tribute to saxophone giants, San Francisco’s Michael Zilber performs music from his upcoming album of all originals. The recording features New York jazz greats Dave Kikoski on piano, James Genus on bass, and Clarence Penn on drums. Accompanying Zilber at the Red Poppy is a group made up exclusively of New York expatriates, including pianist Matt Clark, bassist Peter Barshay, and drummer Akira Tana.
Saxophonist and composer Michael Zilber is described by NEA Jazz Master David Liebman as “one of the best players and composers around anywhere. Period!” The Canadian-born ex-New Yorker has 7 CDs to his name as a leader and has also been a sideman on a myriad of recordings. He co-led a band with drumming great Steve Smith for 8 years and throughout his career has performed, toured, and recorded with numerous leading jazz artists such as Liebman, Miroslav Vitous, and Mike Clark among many others.
Admission: $10-20. Doors at 7:00pm. Show at 7:30pm. All ages welcome.
