Madelina y Los Carpinteros: Latin American Folk Music

$20 – $25Madelina y Los Carpinteros presents an evening inspired by the socially committed Nueva Trova and Nueva Canción folk music of Cuba and Latin America. Performing standards from their repertoire, as well as unpublished compositions, the group will use well-crafted harmonies and layered acoustic instrumentation to present fresh interpretations of Latin American folk music from Chile, Argentina, the Andes Region, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, and the U.S.

Madeleine “Madelina” Zayas – vocals, cajón, güiro, Venezuelan maracas, bombo
Fernando Feña Torres – guitar, tiple, Venezuelan cuatro, charango, zampoña, percussion
Brandon Vance – vocals, guitar, piano, accordion, saxophone, percussion
Denis Schmidt – guitar, charango, tiple, zampoña, bongos, drumset, effects
Madelina y Los Carpinteros is comprised of Buena Trova Social Club’s Madelina Zayas and Brandon Vance and former Grupo Raiz members Fernando Feña Torres and Dennis Schmidt. The group embodies folk roots with enriched lyricism in the tradition of Nueva Trova and Nueva Canción, movements that flourished out of the liberation struggles of Latin America. Besides their original compositions, Madelina y Los Carpinteros performs compositions by Osvaldo Torres, Simón Díaz, Rafael Manríquez, Roy Brown, Juan Antonio Corretjer, Rafael Hernández, Fernando Solanas, Roberto Goyeneche, and others.
