On the first Saturday of every even month of the year\, the MAPP transforms ordinary spaces\, such as private garages\, gardens\, living rooms\, studios\, street corners\, and small businesses into pop-up performance and exhibition sites for a day/night of intimate-scale artistic and cultural exchange among a kaleidoscope of individuals and communities.  Due to COVID-19\, we have temporarily changed this dynamic program from an onsite to an online series. A poet\, dancer\, singer\, healer \n \nAdrian Arian is a poet\, visual artist\, performer\, art teacher\, and South American cultural activist based in the Bay Area for two decades. His poetry and visual art have won awards and local and international recognition. His work has been presented at the Young Museum\, San Marcos Museum\, Poetic Nights of Struga\, Macedonia\, Benamil Residence in Spain\, Venice Biennale\, Latin American Biennial of Lima\, etc. Creator of the multidisciplinary event Illusion Show\, and the Poem of the Day. \n          \nARTIST STATEMENT: \nAdrián believes that poetry is in constant motion\, and that feeds on each discipline to continue among us. Sometimes it is a photograph of a feather lying on the shore\, sometimes a book-object that seems to tell us the future\, sometimes the body moving slowly between blue lights to go dancing with paper and umbrellas\, without rain. \nThe absurd\, the light\, the sensual\, the shadow\, the dreams\, are often elements in the daily life of Adrian\, who in addition to declaring himself a Poet in motion\, is an art teacher and a cultural organizer of events.  \nWORKSHOP: \nAdrian’s Collage workshop is open to a personal exploration of what we are experiencing in times of pandemic and social change. Elizabeth’s vast range of study and breadth of international performances lead her to be aptly fit for presenting the folk dance traditions of Danistan with grace and accuracy.   She is\, in fact\, a royal ambassador to the nation of Danistan\, earning the accurate acronym of RAD\, which she embodies so well with her scintillating dancing.  \n  \nABOUT THE ARTIST: \nAccordionist/pianist/saw player Dan Cantrell is an Emmy winning composer known for his innovative and energetic approach to documentary film and television scoring. He can be heard on albums from Tom Waits\, Joanna Newsom\, the Toids\, Beats Antique\, as well as numerous self-produced albums. He was recently a featured soloist with the San Francisco Symphony and has performed with the Oakland Symphony\, Mike Marshall\, members of the Klezmatics\, Brave Old World\, and Fishbone.  \nDan composed music for three seasons of The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack on Cartoon Network and received an Emmy Award for his scoring work on the PBS documentary Home Front.   \nInfluenced by the music of Eastern Europe\, Early American Jazz and modern alternative rock\, His extensive scoring catalogue for film and television is described as “hauntingly beautiful…quirky and energetic” (SF Bay Guardian). Dan’s music spans a wide range of emotion and style\, rich with virtuosic performance\, lush acoustic orchestrations\, sonic textures resonant with sound design\, and strikingly innovative melodic themes.   \n  \nElizabeth Strong is a San Francisco Bay Area dancer\, choreographer\, and teacher whose work focuses on the integrity and spirit of traditional dance forms inside of a contemporary framework. Elizabeth was a touring member of Bellydance Superstars\, and was a founding member of Bellydance Evolution and of Beats Antique’s dance company with Zoe Jakes. A former principal member of Katarina Burda’s Aywah! Ethnic Dance Company\, Elizabeth has traveled to Egypt\, Turkey\, Tunisia\, Morocco\, Greece and Bulgaria to study closely at the source and is now considered one of the leading experts in the form. She performs with live music groups including Kugelplex\, Inspector Gadje\, and Fishtank Ensemble\, and renowned world musicians including Faisal Zeidan and Rumen Sali Shopov. \nElizabeth has had original choreographies commissioned by Jill Parker and Jillina Carlano\, and has received grants from Zellerbach Foundation and from Bill Graham Presents Foundation. Her Turkish Roman instructional DVD was released in 2011. Images of rugged men with their code of stoic endurance\, self-reliance\, loyalty\, courage\, and camaraderie\, on horseback riding across the plains\, wrangling cattle and spitting chew were everywhere – from the paintings of Charles M. Russell\, Frederick Remington\, and Will James to the landscape itself. However\, the reality is the painful and violent history of manifest destiny that annihilated much of the indigenous peoples and wildlife of the West. The 19th century doctrine gave American settlers the rationale of a ‘God-given destiny’ to expand westward across North America and beyond. Framed in the context of morality\, divinity\, freedom\, and the presumed greatness of a white America\, the ideology was used to justify the forced removal of Native Americans from their land\, the subsequent genocide of their people\, and later\, claims to Pacific islands. The mass migration also served industrialists who benefited from the labor force that established in the west to build the railroads\, work the land\, build the cities\, and mine the natural resources.  \nWilson’s latest body of work\, The Stains and Misdirections of Manifest Destiny explores and calls attention to the painful history of manifest destiny and its lasting racist\, imperialist influence on American social and political ideology today.  \nThe Stains series uses the traditional craft of quilling (paper filigree) to create intricate drawings that evoke 19th century quilt patterns set against a stained foundation. The handicrafts of quilling and quilting spread from England to the American colonies and then to the American West. Wilson began quilling as a child when her grandmother passed on the fashionable craft of her childhood to her granddaughter.  \nThe Misdirections series counters the glorification of the west using revisions of existing historical texts branded into leather hides and stretched over wood placards to create new narratives and new directions for moving forward from a past rooted in the arrogance of manifest destiny.  \nKemp-Greene-Wilson-Metzner is a series of suede works with narratives and ornamentation from Wilson’s ancestral history of pioneer families who migrated from Wisconsin\, Illinois\, and Iowa to Utah\, Idaho\, and Montana in the 19th century as a protestant\, Mormon\, and Jewish settlers\, homesteaders\, miners\, and railway workers. \nMegan Wilson’s quilling drawings at Red Poppy Art House are part of the Stains series. \n \n\n Stain3\n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Image 1 of 3 \n\n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n  \nRonnie Goodman was a self-taught homeless artist and former distance runner living in San Francisco. Jen has a BA in Latin American Studies\, a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Painting\, and a Masters Degree in Expressive Arts Therapy. She has created art with people aged 1 to 81 giving space for them to find their unique creative voice in the world through the arts. Jen’s own activist art can be seen in local murals\, at marches for social justice across the country\, and across social media. Her work has been shown internationally by Amplifier Art\, and is included in the Library of Congress archive. This exhibition is a part of the Art Auction by COH.\n \n  \n“The Stains and Misdirections of Manifest Destiny” \nMegan Wilson \nGrowing up as a fifth-generation Montanan\, Megan Wilson was surrounded by the mythology and iconography of the American West\, and specifically that of the cowboy. Images of rugged men with their code of stoic endurance\, self-reliance\, loyalty\, courage\, and camaraderie\, on horseback riding across the plains\, wrangling cattle and spitting chew were everywhere – from the paintings of Charles M. Russell\, Frederick Remington\, and Will James to the landscape itself. However\, the reality is the painful and violent history of manifest destiny that annihilated much of the indigenous peoples and wildlife of the West. The 19th-century doctrine gave American settlers the rationale of a ‘God-given destiny’ to expand westward across North America and beyond. Framed in the context of morality\, divinity\, freedom\, and the presumed greatness of a white America\, the ideology was used to justify the forced removal of Native Americans from their land\, the subsequent genocide of their people\, and later\, claims to Pacific islands. The mass migration also served industrialists who benefited from the labor force that established in the west to build the railroads\, work the land\, build the cities\, and mine the natural resources.  \nWilson’s latest body of work\, The Stains and Misdirections of Manifest Destiny explores and calls attention to the painful history of manifest destiny and its lasting racist\, imperialist influence on American social and political ideology today.  \nThe Stains series uses the traditional craft of quilling (paper filigree) to create intricate drawings that evoke 19th-century quilt patterns set against a stained foundation. The handicrafts of quilling and quilting spread from England to the American colonies and then to the American West. Wilson began quilling as a child when her grandmother passed on the fashionable craft of her childhood to her granddaughter.  \nThe Misdirections series counters the glorification of the west using revisions of existing historical texts branded into leather hides and stretched over wood placards to create new narratives and new directions for moving forward from a past rooted in the arrogance of manifest destiny.  \nKemp-Greene-Wilson-Metzner is a series of suede works with narratives and ornamentation from Wilson’s ancestral history of pioneer families who migrated from Wisconsin\, Illinois\, and Iowa to Utah\, Idaho\, and Montana in the 19th century as a protestant\, Mormon\, and Jewish settlers\, homesteaders\, miners\, and railway workers. \nMegan Wilson’s quilling drawings at Red Poppy Art House are part of the Stains series. \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n [Show thumbnails]\n \n\n\nRonnie Goodman was a self-taught homeless artist and former distance runner living in San Francisco. He has performed throughout Europe\, Japan\, Brazil and the United States and has shared the stage and recording studio with such names as Guinga\, Brad Mehldau\, Chris Potter\, Spok\, Lee Konitz\, Fleurine\, among many others. \n \nAya Safiya and Tano Brock\nTraditional music from Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean\nFeaturing: \nAya Safiya – vocals\, violin\, laouto  \nTano Brock – vocals\, clarinet\, laouto \nABOUT THE PROJECT: \nAya Safiya and Tano Brock have been musical collaborators for over a decade. They met at a music camp in their teenage years\, and began playing Greek and Balkan music together. In 2014\, along with Cecilia Peña-Govea and Miguel León\, they formed Taraf de Locos\, a SF Bay Area group that created a unique blend of Balkan and Afro-Latin music styles. Following an album release and tour with Taraf de Locos\, Aya and Tano traveled to Eastern Europe together to discover and study music. They have since been collaborating on a regular basis; continuing to play Greek and Balkan traditional styles\, as well as contemporary original music. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic\, Aya and Tano have been frequently performing live-stream concerts from their home studio\, both independently and as a part of larger concerts/festivals.  \nABOUT THE ARTISTS: \nWith strong messages and emotional vulnerability\, Bay Area raised artist Aya Safiya reveals her diverse and complex identity in her singing and songwriting. Her first EP “Aya Safiya\,” released in 2018\, was a transitional introduction to her electronic singer-songwriter career initiated after decades of working as a Greek/Mediterranean/Balkan-music singer and violinist. Aya was 15 when she first started performing and has since gone on to perform at Greek festivals in the US and in Greece\, as well as at venues such as The Great American Music Hall in SF\, the Grand Prospect Hall in NYC\, and the House of Blues in Boston. She has also taught classes in regional Greek violin and Greek/Balkan singing at community-based music schools such as The Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley\, the Sierra Music and Arts Institute in Central California\, and Apapachoa in Nicaragua. In July 2020 she released her 2nd EP\, “My Other Half.” While the new EP is a continuation of her singer-songwriter project\, through it she explores new grounds\, incorporating her Japanese-American roots and writing all lyrics in Japanese. Although Aya’s music “lives between the lines of genre and culture\,” (Jocelle Koh\, Asian Pop Weekly) and “defies standard categorization\,” (Mitch Mosk\, Atwood Magazine) her intimate\, nostalgia evoking songwriting\, ethereal singing\, and hazy production with help from producer Tano Brock\, distinctly conquers a vibe. \nTano Brock is a 24-year-old musician\, songwriter\, producer\, and engineer. Born and raised in San Francisco\, CA\, Tano began studying and performing music at a young age and had an almost supernatural knack for it ever since he began banging on a drum at only a few months old. Throughout his childhood\, Tano accompanied his family to various music camps in California where he was exposed to music from all over the world. At 6 years old\, he began studying darbuka\, a Middle Eastern drum. He then started studying piano at age 7\, and at 12 began teaching himself guitar. In his early teens\, he started playing saxophone/clarinet\, as well as exploring the world of digital recording and production. At age 18\, he released his self-produced debut solo album “Bandit” (2014) – which garnered significant success and launched his career as a composer for synch licensing. In 2019\, Tano graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree focused on performance and music production & engineering. During his time at Berklee\, he explored his deep affinity with world music traditions\, traveling to Turkey to study with master musicians\, and to Cuba for recording sessions in Havana. Possibilities is a project conceived during the lockdown for Covid-19. Between April and June 2020 I have created 5 shadow boxes representing different moments lived during the shelter-in-place; each one of them transfigures a challenge produced by the social isolation and by the fear of uncertainty into a possibility for personal growth. This is the power of resilience! Let’s use our creativity and our imagination to cope with these odd times. Currently\, Balder lives in the Bay Area and performs with the local group’s Orchestra Euphonos\, Yeraz Ensemble\, and Shasta Power Trio\, and the international Trio Dulce Amar and Trio Czinka Panna. Outside of music\, Balder is a software engineer and computer scientist working at Google. \nDiana Strong’s musical training is grounded in classical piano\, along with a lifetime of folk music camps and a wide variety of influences. She picked up the accordion in 2006 and plays an eclectic range of styles including Brazilian forró\, klezmer\, Balkan\, Scandinavian\, French musette\, swing\, and of course original tunes. Upon studying at UNM she was fortunate enough to perform with Juan Siddi\, Yjastros\, and Antonio Granjero. Bianca was featured as a soloist in the National Hispanic Center’s production of El Pintor. During her time studying in Sevilla\, Bianca’s Flamenco idol Juana Amaya told her during class that she had “peso” a characteristic in Flamenco which is innate and seen in many great dancers. Bianca toured with Flamenco Vivo in their North Carolina residency where she discovered her passion for teaching children. She has choreographed for all ages\, recently at St. John’s Catholic School in San Francisco with Katy Alaniz of World Dance Fusion. Under the direction of Carola Zertuche/Theatre Flamenco\, she worked with legendary singer Juana la del Pipa\, Adela Campallo\, Pastora Galván\, and Carmen Ledezma. Bianca’s biggest moments in Flamenco have been dancing in Antonio Rey’s Dos Partes de Mi along with Mara Rey\, and José del Tomates álbum debut Plaza Vieja produced by Eddie and Catherine Diaz of SJFS. She has performed at the Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles\, Brava Theatre\, and Herbst Theatre in San Francisco. Rodriguez performed in Madrid at a tablao called La Cueva de Lola\, where she worked with up and coming artists. She currently teaches in Berkeley and performs regularly through the Bay Area. \nGopal Slavonic trained at the prestigious ‘Fundacion de Arte Flamenco Cristina Heeren’ in Sevilla\, Spain where he studied intensively with leading flamenco guitarists. In his 27 years of dedication to flamenco guitar\, Gopal Slavonic has returned to Spain to further his studies several times\, most frequently to Jerez de la Frontera. In 2008\, Gopal released his CD ‘Dos Orillas’. He has been a resident performer at Copper Spoon in Oakland\, Thirsty Bear Brewing Company in San Francisco\, Peña Pachamama in San Francisco\, Sausalito Seahorse in Sausalito for the last 10 years. A field guide for these times\n \nABOUT THE ARTIST\nAdele Louise Shaw was inspired by her grandmother’s oil paints when she was six years old. She knew since then that art would allow her to best express herself. In 1989 she received a B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute\, College of Art\, and went further with artistic studies in Italy\, Thailand\, Japan\, New York\, Vermont\, California\, most recently in Mexico. \nFollowing her formal and informal education in the arts\, Adele has made her life and livelihood in California. She has found kinship with likeminded people with whom to work and collaborate. Her career has been punctuated with wildly diverse artistic explorations. She lived\, worked and exhibited in San Francisco for twenty years. In the 1990’s she owned and maintained a thirty-two machine laundromat to support herself. After learning digital art skills\, her creative design work has been hired by Warner Brothers\, Neil Young and other creative luminaries. As part of the Hearts in San Francisco project\, Adele was commissioned to maintain a public art installation over a five year period which included twenty-one different projects in total. She recently received her second Arts and Cultural Affairs Grant from the City of Davis for her work with Second Bite: the Wisdom of the Apple\, a large-scale\, immersive\, multimedia art installation. \nAdele’s work is influenced by her spiritual practices\, music and the powers of nature. Her work fuses contemporary art\, impressionism and action painting. Since 1998\, she has been working with encaustic painting and has been leading encaustic workshops since 2001. She leads a variety of classes and workshops from book binding to geometric designs to painting. \nAdele’s artwork has been exhibited extensively throughout the United States and can be found in numerous private and public collections. These days/weeks/months are so very different from ever before. Binding books is a great way to chronicle the experience and meaning of these times. Books facilitate journaling\, drawing\, sketching\, haikus or poems and the recording of events. Uniquely personal; handmade books are a great way to maintain our roots during these extraordinary times and to share and document our experience. \nHandmade books facilitate nearly any type of expression. Whether you’re a writer\, reader\, visual artist\, collage artists or just like to feel the spark of putting pen to paper\, hand-bound books embrace countless uses\, needs and mediums. \nIn this Zoom workshop you will learn how to bind your own book. The patterns are reusable countless times and can lead to binding paper\, or other matter\, into unique collections that are an enduring legacy for yourself\, or a gift. \nARTIST STATEMENT\nI am a painter and a book artist. I grew up surrounded by my grandmother’s oil paints and my great-grandparents’ hand-bound books. Both of my great grandparents were part of the Roycroft movement in western New York. Both of these elements fascinated me. \nMy formal bookbinding studies started with classes in Japan and Thailand where I traveled and worked in different studios to learn their methods. My current book work is focused on a different\, newish\, book form referred to as “Artist Books”. As an avid experimenter\, I continually try new methods and materials\, seeking to put my vision into people’s hands. \nMost of my hand-bound books are derived from my work as a painter. Many contain original art works\, hand painted or printed. My books include recycled materials from everyday life. These artist books become both objects and containers and invite viewer’s participation. \nMy artist books combine elements of art and found objects that are bound together to create unique works of art. As one book naturally gives way to another\, I find endless sources of inspiration to translate into an intimate book form. I see these books as a lasting catalog of passing time. \nI believe in building community through the arts. I teach classes out of my studio in Davis\, California. I will be co-juror and host of a show of artist books titled: “C O N T E N T : an Artist Book Exhibition” in January\, 2021. A Conservatory-trained virtuoso accordionist from a Roma family dynasty of musicians\, he is a specialist in traditional music from across the region of Eastern Europe\, including folk\, Roma (gypsy) and Klezmer styles. Sergiu also\, however\, has an exceptional capability to absorb a wide variety of influences from the worlds of jazz\, Latin and Middle-eastern music\, bringing a fresh perspective and inspired improvisations to every performance. Sergiu is also a sought-after teacher of accordion\, having taught privately to pupils of all ages and levels\, as part-time faculty at Concordia University\, Cégep de Drummondville\, and offering workshops at camps such as CAMMAC Music Centre\, KlezKanada (both in Quebec)\, Django in June (Massachusetts) Cotati Accordion Festival (California) and the EEFC’s Balkan Camp (New York). \nWinner of the Radio Canada Étoiles Galaxie prize (2007)\, the first Prix Diversité (2008) and finalist at the national Roland V-accordion competition (2009\, 2013)\, Sergiu has performed and recorded as a soloist\, and toured Quebec’s major festivals and Maisons de la culture as leader of the multicultural Sergiu Popa Ensemble. The Mexican-born songstress draws on her long experience without papers to explore the plight of border crossers of all stripes\, bringing luminous humanity to a topic defined by searing heat rather than light. Her albums\, Eterno Retorno\, and Arrullo\, are an artistic triumph for these dark times. Gameros has shared the stage with the San Francisco Symphony\, Taylor Mac\, Bebel Gilberto\, Natalia Lafourcade\, and her songs and story have been featured on Billboard\, Mother Jones\, NPR\, and PBS\, to name a few. \nStephanie Sherman is a dancer\, choreographer\, scholar\, teacher and bilingual poet with a PhD in Performance Studies from UC Berkeley and an MFA in Dance from Tisch School of the Arts\, NYU. From 2018-2019\, she received a Fulbright Postdoctoral fellowship to explore the intersections of gender\, blindness\, and embodied movement at the Centro Universitario de Teatro of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma Mexicana and with Teatro Ciego in Mexico City. In 2006\, she received a Fulbright scholarship to choreograph dance-theater in Ecuador\, and in 2007\, she won the National Performance Network’s Red Latinoamericana’s choreographic residency in Ecuador. She has been faculty at Mexico’s prestigious Academia de la Danza Mexicana of its National Institute of Fine Arts as well as visiting professor at the renowned Universidad de las Américas Puebla.\n \n\nLevoná Ensemble\nFlamenco\, Arabic & Jewish Music & Stories \nCombining flamenco guitar\, ethnic percussion\, klezmer clarinet\, and folk songs from the Middle East\, Levoná Ensemble follows melodies and styles that traveled from one side of the ancient world to the other\, bringing them together to explore new possibilities. Levoná have since continued to perform as an independent group\, keeping that same energy alive in both dance and concert halls.\n \n\nJavi Jiménez & Ross Howe\nGypsy Jazz\nJavi Jiménez\, a spanish guitarist based in San Francisco Bay Area presents a night of gypsy jazz along with Ross Howe celebrating the music of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli and the Hot Club of Paris. Javi and Ross have been playing gypsy jazz together for over 5 years. Their style is very open and often incorporates latin or flamenco style influences while always maintaining the jazz concept of the improvisation.\n \nABOUT THE ARTIST\nBorn in Madrid Spain\, Javi Jiménez has been playing and studying guitar for over 25 years. In 2007\, after graduating from the Conservatory of Jazz Music in Barcelona\, Spain\, Javi performed all over Europe. During this time\, he discovered the music of Django Reinhardt\, falls in love with it\, and starts studying it. In 2010 Javi arrived in California and has been performing & working as a studio musician and teaching music. He composes\, arranges and performs in his own band Barrio Manouche – A Blend of flamenco\, gypsy jazz and latin rhythms. The band recently played at the Monterey Jazz Festival and Stern Grove Festival. Learn more: Website \nRoss Howe grew up in the Bay Area and was heavily influenced by the vibrant local music scene. In his early 20’s he discovered the music of Django Reinhardt and fell in love with it. Ross started playing Piano at the age of 8 and then turned to cello at 11. By the time he turned 12 has started playing guitar and has been in love with it ever since. His style of playing incorporates elements of classical tradition with the vocabulary of contemporary jazz\, and gypsy jazz Manouche music\, while always maintaining respect of the jazz guitar traditions and it’s forefathers\, particularly the immortal Django Reinhardt. When not composing\, playing or teaching guitar\, Ross spends as much time as possible surfing and racing sailboats. Ross tries to breathe a bit of fresh air into the art of improvised music through contemporary aesthetics that he hopes his audience will find refreshing. His studies in youth music theory and tombak began at the age of five\, and with the support of his father\, he studied tombak with Naser Farhang Far and Saeid Roudbary. Akhavass worked professionally in his 20s with the renowned Persian vocalist Shahram Nazeri from 2000-2007. He has since recorded and performed with many master world-class musicians such as Hossein Alizadeh\, Aliakbar Moradi\, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. In addition to tombak and daf\, Akhavass is knowledgeable about Persian instruments setar\, tambour\, and oud\, and has studied Indian tabla under the guidance of Ostad Zakir Hussain. Currently residing in San Francisco\, he works on different productions and projects\, teaches private lessons\, and gives lectures and demonstrations in Persian music and performances. \nNavid Kandelousi began studying music on the violin at the age of six. He studied Western classical music in Italy (Verdi Conservatory) and Moscow. Since 1999\, he has performed as a soloist in the Iranian National Orchestra and has been invited as an international violinist in many symphonies around Europe. Kandelousi has played the main violin repertoire of Paganini\, Beethoven\, Sibelius\, Mozart\, and Tchaikovsky. Together they weave West African hunter’s harp\, fingerstyle guitar\, drums\, vocals\, and a bounty of improvisation into an ecstatic groove-based dialogue which the heart\, and the feet\, cannot resist.\n \nFEATURING:\nMamadou Sidibe – kamale ngoni (hunter’s harp)\nWalter Strauss – guitar\n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nMaster kamale ngoni player Mamadou Sidibe is from the Wassoulou Region of Mali\, West Africa. Twenty-five years ago\, Sidibe played a groundbreaking role in the transformation of this region’s music from its origins in hunters’ sacred melodies–played on six-string donso ngoni (hunter’s harps)–to a music of philosophical observations\, politics\, and daily life. Sidibe has won several awards for songwriting including the Billboard World Music Award and the John Lennon Songwriting competition. \nFingerstyle guitarist Walter Strauss’ multi-layered style draws on American roots\, jazz\, classical\, and cultural guitar traditions\, but what makes his playing utterly distinctive is how it is informed by other global stringed instruments.
