He is the author of the poetry collections Scar and Flower (2018)\, Gardening Secrets of the Dead (2012)\, and This Many Miles from Desire (2007). Poet Brian Turner writes that Herrick’s poetry is “Whitman revised … with a voice that is politically engaged and rooted in compassion. Gardening Secrets of the Dead is a wise\, gorgeous book.” He is co-editor\, with Leah Silvieus\, of The World I Leave You: Asian American Poets on Faith and Spirit (2020). A descendant of the Mochica culture of ancient Peru\, he embraces his culture’s use of dreams as a transformative catalyst between reality and imagination. This ancestral knowledge is used to connect artists and communities in collaborations that speak to equality\, liberation\, peace and beauty. He believes that creation goes beyond the result: that the fantastic is always written in the creative act. Arias has created large-scale murals for public and private businesses such as Google and the Luggage Store. As co-founder of Mission Arts Performance Project MAPP\, he conceptualizes and creates multi-sensory art experiences such as\, VideoFest\, Luna Negra\, and ILLUSION. Described as “stunningly honest and vulnerable\,” their artistry engages with music as a tool for community building\, cross-genre collaboration\, and collective healing. When the March 2020 lockdown began\, Anaís started getting their tarot cards read nearly weekly by professional readers as well as students of tarot. This inspired them to connect to their intuition and study tarot\, so they could have another tool to accomplish their mission of engaging in collective healing. Website: www.anaisazul.com \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nTHE GENIE \nThe Genie is an avant-garde guitarist\, multi-instrumentalist and live-looping innovator from San Francisco.  A full-time performer for twenty years\, he combines a variety of genres\, ranging from hip hop\, rock\, reggae\, and electronic\, with traditional sounds including flamenco\, jazz\, traditional Middle Eastern and Asian concepts.  One of the most original and unique performers in the world today\, he is the inventor of “g-mixing”\, a looping style that emulates traditional DJ remixing techniques using hardware in place of software. His shows combine performance art with musical innovation in highly complex but universally enjoyable experience.  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nBARRIO MUNDIAL (members of Barrio Manouche) \nFounded by the Spanish guitarist and composer Javi Jiménez\, the group consists of a singular musical body that combines the instrumentation and signature of Jazz Manouche\, Modern Jazz\, Flamenco and Latin-American rhythms. \nBased in San Francisco\, CA the acoustic ensemble performs a repertoire of original compositions with an emotionally charged sound that is difficult to classify but instantly recognizable.\nBarrio’s international roots shine brightly in their music with members from Spain\, Quebec\, Colombia\, France\, Brazil and the United States. They are deeply influenced by a wide range of musical traditions\, and this is how the group’s unique sound is born. \nBarrio Manouche provides a tremendous live experience and transports its audience on a magical journey\, with a unique fusion of cultures and musical landscapes… an auditory and visual feast like no other. \nTAROT READING AND PAINTING\n \nJENNA FRISCH\n \nJenna started reading tarot with a mini-tarot deck on the kitchen counter in 2015 while studying massage therapy and astrology. They experience Tarot as an expression of rhythm and a medium for opening portals of experience towards greater awareness and deeper mystery. Proof of vaccination is required \n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE ARTISTS: \nPedro José Pastrana A music creator re-thinking the concept of Puerto Rican music\, Pedro crosses over invisible frontiers with an (extra)ordinary approach to music. He aims at fusing the earthy quality of folk music with forward looking compositions and live performances\, reflecting the mixed identities of his heritage and influences. \nBorn and raised in Puerto Rico\, Pedro José Pastrana grew up in the jíbaro music tradition and surrounded by the vocabulary of other popular sounds. This upbringing would help him develop a keen instinct for playing in settings outside of his element. As an active member of the Bay Area music scene\, Pedro has collaborated with the John Santos Sextet\, Jerry Medina\, Juango Gutierrez\, Orestes Vilató\, Atabal\, among others. \nHis debut album\, Crónicas de la Pierna Inquieta consists of eight original tracks\, serving as snapshots of self-discovery\, inspired by the coming of age events of the past 13 years. \nJavi Jimenez Born in Madrid Spain\, Javi Jiménez has been playing and studying guitar for over 25 years. In 2007 he graduated from the Conservatory of Jazz Music in Barcelona Spain. During this time\, he discovered the music of Django Reinhardt\, falls in love with it and starts studying it. In 2010 Javi moved to California\, since then he has been performing & working as a studio musician. \nHe composes\, arranges and performs in his own band Barrio Manouche\, a Blend of flamenco\, gypsy jazz and Latin rhythms. The band had played at the Monterey Jazz Festival\, Outside Lands\, Django Festival and Stern Grove Festival and he had open for national and International acts such as Devotchka(Little Miss Sunshine)\, Pink Martini\, Boulou & Elios Ferré\, Gaby Moreno\, La Santa Cecilia. \nIván Rondón (from Barrio Manouche) is a singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born and raised in Colombia who became a San Francisco Bay Area resident around 2013. After exploring different worldly styles of music throughout his career—West Andeas\, Flamenco\, tropical\, Cumbia\, Salsa\, Champeta\, etc.—Iván has developed his own fusion of sounds with one goal in mind: to make you dance. The result is a harmonious collaboration between the modern electronic movement and the Afro-Latino roots of music. You won’t be able to sit for this. \nIvan has lead projects such as Pasto Seco and Calmao and was also a co-producer on Rumbalu\, the first album by Oskar Ly & Rumbalu. Recently\, Ivan has had successful collaborations as a percussionist\, flutist\, and vocalist with both Barrio Manouche and his brand new electrónica selvática project Tigre Tigre. Tigre Tigre debuted at the Big Stick Festival the summer of 2022 and just played their second show at Reverbia\, the largest live music stage at Burning Man 2022. \nThroughout his career Ivan has performed in several festivals nationwide\, including High Sierra Music Fest\, Burning Man\, Stern Grove\, Joshua Tree\, Big Stick\, San Francisco Carnaval\, and Nocturna Wonderland. Within the Bay Area music scene\, Ivan’s highlights include historical venues such as The Independent\, Great American Music Hall\, The Chapel\, The New Parish\, SF Jazz Center\, and many more! \nPreview the Music:  \n \n \nLearn more: https://www.pjpastranamusic.com/  \nCOVID-19 PRECAUTIONS\n\nMasks are required inside at all time.
