DESCRIPTION:  \nAn Evening Of Music For The Spirit \n  \n  \nRebecca Cross is a composer of electronic and acoustic music. Her work has been seen in NYTimes\, Vouge\, SFWeekly\, Elle\, Nylon and was recently showcased at the International Museum of Women recognizing women in technology. Her current project is an exploration of Americana storytelling with a focus on frequency and sound healing. Wolf & Crow is a San Francisco based folk duo founded in 2009 comprised of Zachary “Crow” Vieira and Mathieu “Wolf” Stemmelen. Their sound is characterized by raw\, natural vocal harmonies singing honest and emotional lyrics\, supported by simple rhythmic guitar picking and colored by a haunting slide guitar. Songwriter Zachary Vieira’s lyrical themes range from troubling visions to historical fiction to abstractedly spiritual epiphanies. DESCRIPTION:  \nWork on view at the Red Poppy Art House by resident artist Peter Foucault\n  \nI Walk the Line\n  \nMixed-media works by Peter Foucault \n  \nThursday August 9 – Saturday September 22\, 2012 \n  \nArtist Reception: Thursday\, September 6 6pm-9pm \n  \nThe Red Poppy Art House is pleased to present new mixed -media works by Peter Foucault investigating the nature of drawing and community\, where chance factors and collaboration exchange and collide to develop what ultimately becomes the finished piece. \n  \nIn his current body of work\, Peter Foucault creates a series of drawing projects where outside factors influence the creation of abstract compositions. Among the selection of works presented in I Walk the Line\, Foucault has collaborated with a small sensor driven robot that interacts with the artist and the public at large to create layers of mark making which he later returns to the studio to further translates these layers\, decoding the algorithm generated by this machine interface. Additionally\, other works presented include Belgium beer suspended in blobs of ink which Foucault then blows across the surface of the paper to further build on his mark making and collage techniques. \n  \nFueled by a love of drawing and mark-making\, Foucault’s works presented at The Red Poppy Art House explore the tension between control and the loss of control\, where viewer interactivity plays an integral part in many of the drawing installations and large-scale artworks on view. \n  \nBased in Oakland\, Foucault’s work has been included in group shows at the Smithsonian Institutes’ Freer and Sackler Gallery\, Kit Schulte Contemporary (Berlin\, Germany)\, The University of Salford (Manchester\, England)\, The NASA Aimes Research Center and The Orange County Center for Contemporary Art among numerous others.  Recent reviews of Foucault’s work have appeared in The San Francisco Chronicle\, The SF Weekly\, ArtWeek\, Wired Magazine\, Stretcher Magazine and is the recipient of grants through the Creative Work Fund\, the City of San Jose’s Pubic Arts Program\, the Seattle Center Foundation and the City of Oakland’s Cultural Funding Program. \n  \nGallery Hours by appointment. They soon discovered a shared interest in classical\, world and experimental music\, as well as a deep admiration and respect for Irish music. Both are active participants in Brooklyn’s eclectic music scene as arrangers\, composers\, players and improvisers. Their collaborative effort\, The Hare Said a Prayer to the Rainbow and Followed the Fox Down the Hole\, is reflective of their wide range of musical influences and experience.
