This frees up Ben\, Josh\, and John to move around in ways that only 3 super deep harmonic and swinging improvisors know how. And what’s guaranteed is a non-traditional evening of improvised music. The quartet will be interpreting Scott’s music from his recent record “Lift”\, as well as music from past releases\, as well as some new things\, and probably some music written by others. \n  \nBen Goldberg and Scott Amendola have a long history of playing music together starting in the 90’s. Ben is one of the most creative musicians on the planet. He knows how to own the music. Josh Smith is one of the few horn players who knows how to make texture\, space\, and energy elevate a band\, but also has is own unique way of playing melody. John Shifflett is the anchor that propels the music in creative ways. How does an anchor move things forward you ask? A Remix Manifesto. \n  \nofficerfishdumplings recorded works from world musicians and integrated them into an interactive remix platform that allows users to create audio-visual remixes on the fly. He will perform an improvised remix using his platform and allow audience members to give it a try. This technology is part of officerfishdumplings’ larger project called remix ←→ culture\, committed to creating a fair trade remix music where anyone can have fun making audio-visual remixes and learn about source musicians through access to interviews\, lyrics\, and instrument descriptions. \n  \nRIP! explores the notion of copyright in the Digital Information Age\, as technology shatters the traditional wall between producers and consumers. The film’s protagonist is a “mash-up” DJ known as Girl Talk who performs by chopping up and re-assembling other musicians’ songs. This participatory media experiment sounds an urgent alarm to save our culture and right to creative expression from corporate control and commodification. \n  \nCounterCorp seeks to spotlight and ultimately prevent the corrosive economic\, political\, and social effects of corporate impunity around the world by raising public and media awareness and encouraging informed discussion and debate about how corporations actually operate\, and what they add to — and subtract from — humanity’s “bottom line.” CounterCorp presents the annual Anti-Corporate Film Festival\, a three-day series of film screenings\, panel discussions\, and related events held every year in San Francisco. \n  \nRed Reels films highlight the work of local and emerging filmmakers and expose audiences to diverse global traditions. DESCRIPTION:  \nDan Zemelman — a dedicated pianist playing major jazz clubs and festivals\, a cultural ambassador\, a skilled composer and a sought after side-man. He began learning piano at age 5\, playing classical music and then switching over to jazz in high school. He has toured India and Sri Lanka\, representing America’s jazz tradition as a ‘Jazz Ambassador’\, performed with legendary bassist Richard Davis\, recorded with blues great John Lee Hooker and plays regularly with Red Poppy favorite\, bassist Marcus Shelby. \n  \nDan is currently a highly successful band leader\, having performed at the acclaimed Yoshi’s Jazz Club three times as a leader as well as at festivals such as the Monterey Jazz Festival\, the SF Jazz Festival\, the San Jose Jazz Festival and many more. In 2011 Dan’s group received a position as an alternate band for Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2010 Rhythm Road music abroad program. All of the members are actively involved in teaching youth around the Bay Area in different areas of music and in promoting culture within the community. Members of the group have studied in Mexico and Cuba and have had the privilege of sharing a stage with master musicians such as Artemio Posadas and Andres Flores. DESCRIPTION:Citizens Jazz Pays Tribute to great Brazilian Composers \n   \n  \nCitizens Jazz is a collective of some of the most talented and driving jazz musicians in the Bay Area. The group is led by bassist Caroline Chung who has been an integral part of the jazz community as a musician and activist bringing you quality music with her projects and collaborations.This evening Citizens Jazz will bring you the timeless music of Brazil\, performing pieces from some of their favorite composers. \n  \nThey will explore the rich diverse rhythms and melodies of this magical country from Samba\, Bossa Nova to Choro. DESCRIPTION:Latino Fusion Music Rooted in the Indigenous\, the Andes  \n  \nAJAYU is a six piece band that plays Latino fusion music rooted in the indigenous cultures of the Andes. Their original compositions and modern sounds are produced by the combination of traditional Andean instruments-Zampoñas and Quenas (flutes)\, Bombo (Ecuadorian drum)\, and Charango (small 8 string guitar from Bolivia) and non traditional instruments-violin\, bass\, and guitar. Their lyrics are socially\, culturally\, and politically conscious. With a ride range of songs that go from spiritual to totally danceable and all the in between\, AJAYU is both versatile and unique. \n  \nThis is an interactive performance where we will be explaining rhythms/significance and inviting audience members to join us in percussion\, song\, and dance! \n  \n*Ajayu means soul in Aymara\, an indigenous language of Bolivia \n  \nHector Zapana: Quena\nGiovanny: Guitar\nGabriel Escobar: Bass\nEddison Bolaños: Charango\nAlejandra Maciel: Violin\nGuido: Cajon\, Bombo\, Bongos \n  \nAdmission is $10-15.
