Cantor resides in the Bay Area\, where she performs\, writes\, teaches\, and records music. \nJacob Aranda is a singer/songwriter from Chicago who has recently moved to San Francisco. DESCRIPTION:Music of Master Brazilian Composers Gismonti\, Jobim\, and Pascoal \n Join flutist Sonia Caltvedt and pianist Eduardo Corzo as they explore the music of influential Brazilian composers Gismonti\, Jobim\, Pascoal and others. The pair will be accompanied by Eric Garland on drums and joined by other surprise guests. Sonia Caltvedt is a classically trained flutist who fell in love with Latin music a little over a decade ago. Since then\, she has performed in the flamenco-latin ensemble Potingue\, bossa nova quintet Bossa Five-0\, Brazilian pop band Brazilvox\, original tango ensemble Scala Tympani\, Carlos Oliveira’s Northeast Brazilian ensemble\, Kata-vento and the newly formed forro band\, Porreta. Sonia is the Marketing Director for Community Music Center\, a non-profit music school and performance space based in the Mission District of San Francisco. \n \n\nEduardo Corzo is a pianist\, guitarist and clarinetist from Havana\, Cuba. He has composed and arranged music for Cuban and Mexican television\, served as musical director of the Conjunto Nacional de Espectaculos\, and toured throughout Latin America. Living in Mexico during the 90’s\, he played with an incredible array of musicians including Lila Downs and Oriente Lopez to name a few. Corzo is an artist with a broad vision\, interested in genres and styles different from his own\, and whose background includes a mix of everything from Bach partitas to Brazilian and Afro Cuban sounds. \nAdmission: $10-15. Her writing credits include a solo show called Emily: On Clerical Errors and Destiny and Tales From the Tub which she wrote\, directed and produced in 2008. \nHer latest work\, Chutzpah!\, is an irreverent musical comedy about a Jewish girl from Long Island who runs away from home and gets a job at a Manhattan deli. No sooner does she learn the difference between a kishka and a tuches that she discovers the deli is a front for a burlesque club run by Orthodox Jews! Will she make it as a burlesque dancer? Will she make it with the club’s DJ? Will she reconcile with her family? Or will her idea to use her father’s new polysaccharide as a tool for sexual liberation be the answer to a repressed society’s dysfunctionality? DESCRIPTION:Join us a night of smooth melodies and West African influences with interdisciplinary vocalists and instrumentalists Sparlha Swa and Zéna on a special double bill. \n Sparlha Swa offers folk/soul/alternative music that is honest and evocative. Mixing impeccable vocals and haunting chords her songs speak to and about the human spirit. Born in Kingston\, Jamaica\, the artist pulls her inspiration from around the globe with mentors like Sade\, Billie Holiday\, Astrud Gilberto\, Miriam Makeba and Ravi Shankar. Notable musical landmarks include landing a lead role in the critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway piece Fela! Directed by Bill T. Jones. The show won 3 Lucille awards\, 5 Audelco awards\, and has been nominated for Drama Desk as well. In an alternate universe\, Sparlha works as a psychotherapy intern in Berkeley\, and is at work on her 4th album Moongazing which incorporates story\, imagery and song in a magical allegory of the soul. For this show\, Sparlha will perform alongside vocalist Aarthi Belani. \nSparlha Swa – guitar & vocals\nAarthi Belani – vocals \n  \n“Smashing” – The New York Times \n  \nCheck out Sparlha on the web \n  \n \n  \n Zéna is a Bay-area visual and performing artist and a student of Jaliyaa\, the West African musical and oral tradition with a specialization in kora (West African harp)\, Zéna’s interdisciplinary background has allowed her to explore a seamless application of the same themes found in the music of the African Diaspora within her visual art. Blending storytelling with song\, Zéna draws on influences from her time living in the Caribbean\, Latin America\, and East and West Africa; using her harp as an anchor to ground the music in classical West African styles. \n  \nAdmission: $10-15. DESCRIPTION:Original Soul and Blues \nTrained in classical piano as a child\, Irene Diaz sprung onto the Los Angeles music scene in late 2011\, starting in small coffee shops before making her way into well known LA venues like Room 5 and Hollywood’s House of Blues. Since then she has risen to national attention\, airing on NPR and raising $10\,000 through Kickstarter\, which allowed her to fund her “I Love You Madly EP” as well as an East Coast tour. Diaz’s voice is deep and mournful\, adding darkness to a clear piano\, guitar and string accompaniment while maintaining a certain playful twist.
