Hay has toured and performed throughout Europe\, Canada\, and the U.S. with concert highlights at the Bimhuis\, the Ottomat\, New Music America Festival\, Art Rock Festival\, Kulturni Dom\, Staion de Art Sankt Peter\, Shapeshifter Lab\, and the Reithalle. \nThomas Dimuzio is a composer\, musician\, mastering engineer\, and label proprietor based in San Francisco. Long regarded as a musical pioneer for his innovative use of live sampling and studio techniques to create consistently compelling works\, Dimuzio has earned a deserved reputation worldwide as an avant-garde sound artist in touch with the aesthetic pulse of time and technology. He has produced radically distinct sound libraries for Big Fish Audio\, Rarefaction\, and OSC\, which have then been utilized by television programs such as the X-Files\, and provided mastering services on works by Negativland\, Wobbly/People Like Us/Matmos\, and GG Allina among others. His collaborations include work with Chris Cutler\, Fred Frith\, Matmos\, Wobbly\, DJ Qbert\, Dan Burke\, Paul Haslinger\, Due Process\, 5uu’s\, and more. \nMotoko Honda is a concert pianist\, composer\, and interdisciplinary artist who has created a distinctive sound through her holistic approach to music and her exceptional sensitivity in relating to other art forms and technologies. His new series of small format paintings is dedicated to his dreams. Curated by Renee Baldocchi and dedicated to René Yañez\, the exhibition reflects a state of life that is very important to Arias’ creative process. His work is born in the surreal and is based on the idea of landscapes and natural scenes where the rocks\, the sea\, the mountains\, and the flowers come alive with colors from the dream. Arias has received much recognition in his different disciplines\, including his work as a poet for which he obtained prizes that culminated in book publications. As a visual artist\, he has participated in artist residences with museums\, such as the de Young Museum\, and international exhibitions\, like the Biennial of Venice and the Ibero-American Biennial. His video-art pieces have been selected and won prizes in San Francisco and Berkeley.\n \nFormerly known as Love Songs from Around the World (LSFATW)\, Dina Zarif Ensemble is a collaboration between Dina Zarif\, an Iranian immigrant singer\, and Amelia Romano\, a San Francisco native harpist\, performing a blend of classical and folk music. Their music invites the listener on a journey that combines flamenco and tango-inspired rhythms with Iranian folk tunes in a seamless soundscape of tragedy and triumph through deep concepts of immigration and homeland.\n \nWith a cast of San Francisco’s most diverse musicians\, LoCura mixes Latin styles like rumba flamenca\, Cuban rhythms\, cumbia\, and ska together in a brand they’ve dubbed “califas flamenkito.” Fronted by Spanish-American vocalist Kata Miletich\, LoCura reflects the global mosaic of its home in San Francisco through its distinctive style and brings the members’ experiences to life in its sophomore album\, Semilla Caminante. With lyrics in Spanish and English\, themes range from border issues and immigrant rights to urban life and making another world possible.\n \nRyan Andersen is a singer-songwriter and composer based in San Francisco. His songs explore themes of personal healing\, spirituality\, humanity\, and environmentalism with the aim to inspire listeners and elevate consciousness.\n \nRupa Marya is a composer\, songwriter\, singer\, guitarist\, and leader of the band Rupa & the April Fishes. She grew up in between the San Francisco Bay Area\, Southern France\, and Northern India\, and her compositions span four languages and countless musical idioms\, from French chanson to Colombian cumbia\, from American folk to Indian ghazal. Her music has been used by Giorgio Armani without her permission\, has appeared in NBC’s Parenthood series\, and has been used with her enthusiastic support to further the work of performance artists\, climate activists\, and food sovereignty activists around the world. The LA Times calls her sound “ecstatic and powerfully evocative.”\n \nDos Bandoleros is a Spanish rumba duo founded by Raul Vargas (Makrú) and Muchacho Mandanga (La Mandanga) in the Bay Area. Violinist/vocalist Sara Pajunen and accordionist/vocalist Teija Niku use their common musical heritage as a starting point for original chamber-folk. Before the move\, he was a student at UC Santa Cruz where he received a degree in classical performance. While at UCSC he studied jazz piano with Smith Dobson. Shulman can also be seen as a sideman with countless Bay Area musicians and vocalists\, such as Marcus Shelby\, Anton Schwartz\, Andrew Speight\, Erik Jekabson\, Ed Reed\, Mike Olmos\, Gary Brown\, Patrick Wolff\, John Wiitala\, Vince Lateano\, Faye Carol\, Kellye Gray\, Ian Carey\, and Mike Zilber among many others. \nShulman has also played as a sideman with internationally renowned artists Stefon Harris\, Willie Jones III\, Dayna Stephens\, Miguel Zenon\, Mark Murphy\, Alan Harris\, Luciana Souza\, Paula West\, Larry Coryell\, Sean Jones\, Grant Stewart\, John Clayton\, Bobby Hutcherson\, Bria Skonberg\, and with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. In addition to performing with many local musicians in jazz and classical repertoire\, she is also a voice and piano teacher. \nBassist Stacy Starkweather has played with many groups including the Jazz Mandolin Project\, Hieroglyphics\, Phish\, and is currently playing with the Suspects of Soul and occasionally the Union Hotel’s Jazz Explosion\, Bob Muzzy’s Muzztones\, and DB Walker Band. \nSince benefitting from the programs at the California Jazz Conservatory (CJC) since 2010\, drummer Jeff Pera has played with a variety of people—often with LJT Trio—at the CJC Cafe\, Mr. Tipple’s\, B-Side\, Rose Pistola\, and other Bay Area venues. DESCRIPTION:IpeiroKritika performs a mix of traditional Epirot and Cretan tunes and songs\, two styles that are some of the most popular and known to be the most contrasting regional music of Greece.\n \nFEATURING:\nGregory Masaki Jenkins – clarinet\, vocals\nAya Safiya – violin\, vocals\nTano Brock – laouto\, vocals \n \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nGregory Masaki Jenkins\, a South Bay native\, has been playing Greek music since 1995 when he first attended Balkan Camp in Mendocino. After five years\, he became an instructor there\, directing Kids Band from 2001-2015 and also teaching at Balkanalia!\, Kolo Festival\, and Zambaleta. His travels to the Balkans have led him to meet and study with some of the world’s greatest Balkan musicians including Nikos Filippidis\, Dzambo Agusev\, and Ferus Mustafov. Jenkins currently directs the Balkan brass band Fanfare Zambaleta\, teaches a weekly rebetika songs class on Tuesdays\, and is on staff at Lark Camp. \nAya Safiya\, a Bay Area-born musician\, has studied Greek music for 20 years. In the past 10 years\, she has made numerous visits to Greece to study with master singers and violinists such as Katerina Papadopoulou\, Nicos Chatzopoulos\, and Nikos Oikonomidhis. Safiya currently performs with Agapi Mou\, Café Aegean\, and Taraf de Locos. \nTano Brock is a Bay Area-born multi-instrumentalist\, composer\, and producer. Some of his primary instruments include percussion\, saxophone\, clarinet\, and guitar. He co-founded Balkan/Latin band Taraf de Locos and has played with Greek quartet Agapi Mou\, as well as Istanbul Connection. DESCRIPTION:Flamenco dancer Melissa Cruz presents a series of vignettes that feature collaborations with diverse artists reflecting her development as a local Bay Area working artist.\n \nFEATURING:\nMelissa Cruz – dance\nAlex Conde – piano\nGregory Masako Jenkins – horns\nMarco Peris – percussion\n \nABOUT THE ARTIST:\nMelissa Cruz is a Bay Area-based flamenco professional and has been a full-time flamenco artist and instructor for the past 14 years. After being exposed to flamenco while studying Spanish at UC Berkeley\, she began dancing with Rosa Montoya and soon thereafter joined Ms. Montoya’s professional company. Apart from frequently performing in theatrical presentations\, Cruz teaches a full weekly schedule of flamenco dance classes and presents consistently in the local flamenco cabaret circuit. She is also the dancer and percussionist for the band LoCura\, with whom she performs and tours. Recently\, she served as adjunct dance faculty at the University of San Francisco\, as a guest instructor at the world dance youth program Danceversity\, and currently presents her own apprentice dance repertory group. Cruz has performed as a soloist in the San Francisco International Arts Festival in 2012 and 2016 and has presented in eight San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festivals. She was commissioned to present a solo representing the genre of flamenco in the 2013 San Francisco Isadora Duncan Awards Ceremony and was a featured artist in the 2014 Tucson Flamenco Festival. Currently\, Cruz is principal dancer and choreographer for the San Francisco Flamenco Dance Company\, which debuted the show Mares in September 2016.
