Android Trio formed during extensive touring as members of the renowned Magic Band—formerly Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band—and the Grandmothers of Invention—formerly Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention. After playing together on a lark at a café in Sydney, Australia in 2014, drummer Andy Niven, guitarist/bassist Eric Klerks, and guitarist Max Kutner decided to continue exploring the possibilities of combining their varied stylistic directions.
Kevin Robinson is a performer, composer, educator, and multi-woodwind instrumentalist who explores various interdisciplinary approaches to composition and improvisation. He is a native of Baltimore, Maryland, and is currently based in Oakland, California. He now attends Mills College in the MA Composition Program where he is studying with Roscoe Mitchell. Established in 2003, the Kevin Robinson Ensemble, KREation, has since recorded several studio albums and performed at various festivals and venues throughout the United States. Some highlights include performances at the Studio Museum in Harlem, The Made in LA 2012 Biennial, The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, Artscape Festival in Baltimore, and the Outsound New Music Summit in San Francisco.
