Laila Biali & The Radiance Project: Contemporary Jazz-Influenced Chamber Pop

June 5, 2015 @ 7:30 pm

$15 – $20
Laila Biali E1430248833877

Award-winning pianist, vocalist and songwriter, Laila Biali, has toured with Chris Botti, Paula Cole, Suzanne Vega, and Sting. Critically acclaimed as one of North America’s finest jazz musicians, her new album, House of Many Rooms, sees the Brooklyn-based artist venturing into a more pop-oriented sound, full of catchy hooks, sweet melodies, and anthemic musical arrangements. For this special album release concert, Laila is backed by a six-piece ensemble that features strings and an award-winning rhythm section.

House of Many Rooms is Laila’s first album of entirely original material, and it also marks her first time arranging for gospel choir and string orchestra. Taking the best of pop, rock, classical, world and soul, Laila informs the sound with her expertise in jazz, and weaves it into her original songs and arrangements. Co-produced with her husband, Ben Wittman, the album is fitted for a vast range of instruments, from gospel choir to brass quartet, bass clarinet, Haken Continuum and string orchestra.

“It is the ultimate task given to the musician, whether as singer or instrumentalist, to create a unique signature or fingerprint that is instantly recognizable as their own. What is surprising and delightful in Laila Biali is that both as vocalist and pianist she accomplishes this with equal aplomb. She is an exciting and unique talent, and I admire her greatly.” – Sting
