October 30, 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
$10 – $20Karina Deniké presents an original set of reflective songs filled with tales of female aviators, love, memory, as well as personal and regional history. Bay Area pianist and vocalist Christianna Valentina opens the evening with her raw, minimalist take on Argentine tango, Brazilian and American standards.
Featuring:
Karina Deniké – vocals, chord organ
Meryl Press and Christie Winn – vocals
James Frazier – Fender VI guitar
Michael McIntosh – piano
Cory Wright – bass clarinet
Jason Levis – drums
Karina Deniké is a San Francisco vocalist, bandleader, and songwriter who moves fluidly from intimate torch song chanteuse to soul singer to punk powerhouse. With a focus on performance and an obsession with the voice as an instrument, Deniké is known for vocal harmonies that can hush rooms with a whisper and break hearts with a shout. Her acclaimed original 2015 album, Under Glass, was named one of the top 10 Bay Area jazz albums of 2015 by KQED. Deniké, who has released over 25 albums as collaborator, solo artist, or guest on major and independent labels, is a current touring member of NOFX, the Cottontails, the Bluebelles, and Marc & the Casuals, and she leads her own self-titled band.
