Jure Pukl Trio: East Coast Tenor Sax

Performing a repertoire of standards and originals, Jure Pukl Trio invites you for a night of swinging music with a hint of contemporary jazz.

Recipient of the Slovenian highest national award for arts (Nagrada Presernovega sklada 2015), Jure Pukl is one of the most prolific and creative saxophonists of the younger Slovene jazz generation. He obtained university education abroad studying both classical and jazz saxophone. Throughout his studies, Pukl performed and recorded extensively with his own projects as well as with a number of great musicians and orchestras, including Maceo Parker, Branford Marsalis, Dave Liebman, Vijay Iyer, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Big Band RTV Slovenia, and European Movement Jazz Orchestra among many others. In 2005, he won the first Jury Prize and Best Composition Audience Award at the Jazzon International Music Workshop and Festival in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. His auctorial projects, such as the Virus Quintet, Pukl creates a special combination of avant garde, free jazz and impressionistic contemporary music that gives prominence to the interplay between his band members.
