ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

George Brooks is an award-winning saxophonist and composer, acclaimed for successfully bridging the worlds of jazz and Indian classical music. He is the founder of seminal Indian fusion groups; Summit with Zakir Hussain; Bombay Jazz with Ronu Majumdar and Larry Coryell; Raga Bop Trio with Steve Smith and Prasanna; Kirwani Quartet with Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia and Elements with Kala Ramnath and Gwyneth Wentink.

Utsav Lal was born and raised in New Delhi, where he trained in Indian classical music with dhrupad vocalist Ustad Wassifudin Dagar, Lal subsequently received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in jazz and Western classical music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the New England Conservatory of Music. Lal was named a Young Steinway Artist in 2010.

Pianist Frank Martin has toured as Musical Director for Narada Michael Walden, Patti Austin, Angela Bofill, and Roy Ayers and for the past 20 years has been a member of Sting’s “Rainforest Band” with l and others. Martin has performed with Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Zakir Hussain, James Taylor, Elton John, Billy Joel, Larry Coryell, Herbie Hancock, Santana, B.B. King, and Bruce Springsteen.

For Scott Amendola, the drum kit isn’t so much an instrument as a musical portal. As an ambitious composer, savvy bandleader, electronics explorer, first-call accompanist, and capaciously creative foil for some of the world’s most inventive musicians, Amendola applies his wide-ranging rhythmic virtuosity to a vast array of settings. His closest musical associates include guitarists Charlie Hunter, Nels Cline, and Jeff Parker, Hammond B-3 organist Wil Blades, violinist Jenny Scheinman, saxophonist Phillip Greenlief, clarinetist Ben Goldberg, bassists Trevor Dunn, and Todd Sickafoose.
