Gamelan Sekar Jaya: Music & Dance of Bali

Gamelan Sekar Jaya presents a rare opportunity to experience Balinese music and dance in an intimate setting. The program will feature Sekar Jaya’s master artists-in-residence, renowned composer I Nyoman Windha and dancers I Made Moja and Shoko Yamamuro, leading 20 performers in an exciting range of traditional and new works.
 
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Gamelan Sekar Jaya’s music and dance range from traditional Balinese repertoire to cutting-edge compositions. The 60-plus company of musicians and dancers of GSJ play on several sets of Balinese instruments, consisting of various combinations of bronze-keyed metallophones, bamboo marimbas, gongs, drums, and flutes. GSJ is the first foreign group to receive the Dharma Kusuma, Bali’s highest award for artistic achievement. The company is renowned for its exploration of traditional and contemporary forms through long-term residencies with Bali’s finest artists.
