Erik Jekabson Quartet: Straight Ahead Jazz

Trumpeter/composer Erik Jekabson brings his quartet to the Red Poppy to play his originals and arrangements of standards.  Jekabson’s music has been described as a “…thoughtful, cerebral post-bop affair that is a perfect balance between melodic artistry and probing, knotty jazz improvisation (Allmusic Guide).” He’s played with Illinois Jacquet, Galactic and John Mayer and is currently leading bands around the Bay Area. “He’s straight-ahead without a real wandering palette. As a bandleader, he’s judicious, knowing when to lean and when to shine (East Bay Express).” This quartet features his fellow Oberlin graduate Matt Clark on piano, John Wiitala, one of the most in-demand bassists around, and the incredibly swinging and tasteful Hamir Atwal on drums.

Tickets will not be sold in advance for this event. Please arrive at the Red Poppy when doors open to purchase tickets.

We are pleased to announce that we have begun some minor construction at the Poppy to make our space fully wheelchair accessible.
