ENSAMBLE A CONTRATIEMPO – AFRO VENEZUELAN JAZZ is one of the most versatile jazz bands on the scene today. They fuses a wide range of jazz, world music, and electronic elements with his native Afro-Venezuelan roots to create a fresh and original urban sound, all with a Latin jazz heart. This Band uses conventional instruments in unconventional forms of music, a spirit of beauty, spontaneity, and jazz improvisation. Afro-Venezuelan Harp, Cuatro (Guitar from Venezuela), Violin, Bass, and Afro-Venezuelan Percussion will be an unforgettable experience.

They are Venezuelan Harp and Venezuelan Cuatro virtuosos with world-class credentials respectively, very well-schooled in the history of the harp and guitars in the Americas.
Angel Tolosa is leading together with Luis Tolosa on Venezuelan Harp and Venezuelan Cuatro the internationally-renowned Ensamble A Contratiempo Band, which provides superior musicianship and an unforgettable experience.
Hailed for their spirited performances and their masterly connection between Venezuelan music, classical, contemporary urban sounds, and world music as well as their unparalleled creativity with an artistic output that is simply staggering. From straight ahead to avant-garde, Venezuelan music to fusion, children’s songs to chamber music, along with some far-reaching forays into symphonic works, the Tolosa Brothers have touched an astonishing number of musical bases in their illustrious career while maintaining a standard of excellence that is awe-inspiring. They are the Founder, CEO, and Artistic Director at International Harp Fest in Venezuela, Mexico, and New York City respectively, they have presented many concerts, workshops, and conferences in more than 30 countries such as the United States of America, France, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Spain, Belgium, Trinidad and Tobago, El Salvador, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Czech Republic, Paraguay, United Kingdom, Ecuador, Brazil, Italy, Venezuela, Austria, Croatia.

Since embarking on a solo career in 1994, Angel and Jose Luis Tolosa have been at the forefront of Venezuelan music, both as a renowned Harpist and Cuatrist forging new ground with their acoustic bands and as an innovative electro/acoustic “Ensamble A Contratiempo”, besides Tolosa Brother’s have contributed in building an essential vocabulary to learn the Latin Harp – Guitar and the redesign of the Venezuelan Harp.
Their extensive discography boasts three foremost albums, beginning with their 2007 classic Album “Katuketi” 2007, and a couple of exclusive recordings “Venezuelan Sounds” to Radio France – Czech National Radio 2011, and “Ancient Roots” to Universal Studios 2020.
