“Django and Monk: Jazz Originals”

“Django Djazz Extravaganza” — featuring Vic Wong‘s “Panique” and “DjangoSphere ” with Kit Eakle and Mark Holzinger is a celebration of Djypsy Djazz and it’s influence on the American Jazz scene.

Panique

Panique is a gypsy jazz band from San Francisco specializing in Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli‘s music of the ’30s and ’40s. Think of the backdrop to romantic Paris cafes, smoky underground jazz clubs, and Woody Allen flicks.

DjangoSphere celebrates Django Reinhardt’s connections to modern jazz, bebop and the likes of Thelonious Sphere Monk. Think of hot jams at Minton’s after hours circa 1950, and Paris Ste. Germaine in the same period. They had tremendous influence on each other!

DjangoSphere features Kit Eakle on violin, Mark Holzinger on guitar, Alex Baum on bass and John Waller on percussion. They are all veterans of other local and international acts like Dan Hicks and the Acoustic Warriors, Lost Weekend, The Hot Club of Marin, Roadside Attraction, The Matt Eakle Band, Johnny Nocturne, The Organic Groove, Dave Bell and more. They bring it all together to shed light on the true originality of Django and Thelonious Sphere Monk, and mix it up with their own original tunes and sounds!
