FEATURING:
Mark Deutsch – bazantar
Jaron Lanier – various wind & string instruments of Asia

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Mark Deutsch is a visionary artist who probably is best known as the creator of the bazantar, an acoustic bass with additional sympathetic and drone strings. It is a remarkable instrument that weaves a mesmerizing soundscape of resonance and evokes all the power of Western classical music with the depth and nuance of Eastern traditions. His latest release is the epic work, The Picasso Tunings, a four-volume series of compositions for solo bazantar that spans a vast landscape of musical styles and traditions.

A Renaissance man for the 21st century, Jaron Lanier is a computer scientist, composer, artist, and author who writes on numerous topics, including high-technology business, the social impact of technology, the philosophy of consciousness and information, Internet politics, and the future of humanism. As a musician, Lanier has been active in the world of new “classical” music since the late 1970s. He is a pianist and a specialist in unusual musical instruments, especially the wind and string instruments of Asia. He maintains one of the largest and most varied collections of actively played rare instruments in the world.
