Derek Lassiter: Jazz-Driven Poetic Soul

Derek Lassiter debuts brand new songs of personal truth and universal love for future release. Experience an inspired evening with Lassiter’s dynamic band led by Art Khu and featuring special guest vocalist Cedric Brown. Not to be missed!

Lassiter, a mainstay on the San Francisco arts scene, has received accolades for both his recordings and live performances featuring Bay Area notables such as pianist/composer Tammy Hall, producer/percussionist PC Muñoz, and composer/pianist Art Khu. Lassiter is profiled in Julian C. R. Okwu’s book “Face Forward: Young African American Men in a Critical Age.”

This event also features guest poets Marvin K. White and Cedric Brown. 

Marvin K. White, author of Our Name Be Witness, Status, last rights (finalist for Stonewall Book Award and Lambda Literary Award) and nothin’ ugly fly (finalist for Lambda Literary Award), is a poet, performer, playwright, visual artist and community arts organizer.
Cedric Brown is a community investor and artist. He as performed in numerous Bay Area venues and festivals for over 20 years.  His book “Tar Heel Born: A Native Son Speaks on Race, Religion, and Reconciliation” will be released on June 19th. “It’s always an honor to sing with such an exquisite musician as Derek Lassiter.” oaktownbrown.com
