GPS (Good People, Son) is a jazz-meets-chamber rock sextet led by celebrated guitarist and composer David James and featuring local luminaries Beth Custer, Alan Williams, Lisa Mezzacappa, Ela Polak, and John Hanes. A lifelong Bay Area resident, David has been involved with seminal local groups for decades, sculpting guitar feedback and ambient sounds with Thessalonians, touring and recording hip-hop with Spearhead and the Coup, playing Afrobeat with Afrofunk Experience, and presenting funky art-song with the Beth Custer Ensemble, all of which has led to GPS, whose 2016 album, Billionaire Blues, was highlighted as an outstanding debut by NPR.
