Dan Zemelman

Dan Zemelman — a dedicated pianist playing major jazz clubs and festivals, a cultural ambassador, a skilled composer and a sought after side-man. He began learning piano at age 5, playing classical music and then switching over to jazz in high school. He has toured India and Sri Lanka, representing America’s jazz tradition as a ‘Jazz Ambassador’, performed with legendary bassist Richard Davis, recorded with blues great John Lee Hooker and plays regularly with Red Poppy favorite, bassist Marcus Shelby.

 

Dan is currently a highly successful band leader, having performed at the acclaimed Yoshi’s Jazz Club three times as a leader as well as at festivals such as the Monterey Jazz Festival, the SF Jazz Festival, the San Jose Jazz Festival and many more. In 2011 Dan’s group received a position as an alternate band for Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2010 Rhythm Road music abroad program. In addition, Dan has been on the faculty at several major jazz institutions in the SF area, including Jazzcamp West, The Berkeley Jazzschool and Lafayette Jazz Camp.

 

The quartet will be playing music of of Weather Report, Yellowjackets, Josh Redman, Brad Mehldau and original music.
