Colin Cotter & Sumaia Jackson

Ripping Fiddle Tunes & Soulful Folk Songs

Sumaia Jackson (5-string fiddle) and Colin Cotter (guitar, vox) put their virtuosity to work in a performance featuring Sumaia’s original tunes, Colin’s original songs, and repertoire from the Americana & Celtic worlds. The duo masterfully moves from blazing fiddle tunes to beautiful slow songs, sings tight harmony vocals, pulls off tightly arranged pieces, and lets loose with improvised solos and arrangements, all the while highlighting the beauty of organic interplay between musicians playing live.

Colin Cotter – guitar & vocals
Sumaia Jackson – 5-string fiddle & vocals

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

With a driving groove and a smooth, open sound, fiddler and tunestress Sumaia Jackson is a quintessential modern West Coast fiddler. Jackson weaves together various fiddle traditions with easy virtuosity and melodic elegance. Born and raised in Santa Cruz, Jackson spent years soaking up tunes and styles at vibrant fiddle camps. On a full scholarship, she holds a Bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music in the American Roots Music department.

Colin Cotter is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter who has performed from coast to coast in the USA and toured internationally in Canada, Ireland, and Spain. His current musical endeavors include duos with fiddlers Sumaia Jackson, Ryan McKasson (Old Growth Graveyard), and Adrianna Ciccone. He has released albums with the bands MAC (Perfectly Manufactured Reality, 2018) and A Thousand Years at Sea (4 releases between 2009 and 2014) and played guitar on several tracks for Sumaia’s 2019 record, Möbius: Trip.

As a duo, their performance includes many of Sumaia’s original tunes, Colin’s original songs, and repertoire from the Americana & Celtic worlds, featuring a great energy range from blazing fiddle tunes to beautiful slow songs, harmony vocals, tightly-arranged pieces, improvised solos and arrangements, and organic interplay between the musicians.
