ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Traditional and Contemporary Tango Music
Bandoneonist and modern tango composer Charles Gorczynski returns to the Bay Area to debut his new tango quartet featuring pianist Elyse Weakley, violinist Basma Edrees, and bassist Dan Fabricant. The group returns to the roots by performing traditional tango music for both concerts and milongas, focusing on the music of legendary tango bandleaders Osvaldo Pugliese and Anibal Troilo.
Bandoneonist and composer Charles Gorczynski works in contemporary tango and music production. He is the director of Minneapolis-based Twin Cities Tango Collective, the bandleader of Redwood Tango Ensemble and Charles Gorczynski Tango Quartet, and has been the bandoneonist for dozens of tango projects including Mariano Barreiro Tango Trio, Alejandro Ziegler Cuarteto, Maldito Tango Duo, Maxi Larrea Trio, and Los Tangueros Del Oeste. He has toured North America and Europe extensively to support original tango music releases: the most recent album “We Become The Night Sky” recorded by 12-piece tango ensemble based in San Francisco. On the production side, Charles is a Latin Grammy nominated mixing engineer and owner of the Minneapolis-based studio/label Caverns.
