She’s the founding Artistic and Executive Director of Art2Action Inc.\, and the National Coordinator of the National Institute for Directing & Ensemble Creation (an Art2Action collaboration with Pangea World Theater). She is currently an Artist-in-Residence and guest faculty at the School of Theatre & Dance\, University of South Florida (Tampa). Andrea has served as a consultant with Equity Quotient (EQ)\, Alternate ROOTS\, the Arts & Democracy Project\, and more. She is a former Artistic Director of New WORLD Theater (2004-09)\, and former Program Associate for Animating Democracy (2001-04). Andrea has a Masters degree in Performance Studies and a BFA in acting\, both from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She currently serves on the Board of CAATA (Consortium of Asian American Theaters & Artists)\, and is a voting board member of Alternate ROOTS. She served on the International Management Committee of WPI (Women Playwrights International\, 2012-15)\, and is a member of RAWI (Radius of Arab American Writers).\n \nManaar Azreik\n \n\nManaar Azreik is a non-binary person who was born in the southern Israeli city of Be’er Sheva to Palestinian\, Christian Arab parents. Manaar grew up bilingual in Arabic and Hebrew and first learned English in a Bedouin elementary school. She became the seven-time national Israeli Judo champion and has had a lifelong journey to reconcile her identities and heritage as a modern Israeli and accept herself as a transgender person. She is a soul-centered transformation mentor\, leading humanity to a true realization of the divine self through expressive arts including movement\, sacred music\, and soul dancing. Her recent invention is named Transformation by Fire\, an organization that offers Healing and Recovery services in natural disaster areas. She is the CEO of Wholistic Solutions and the author of The Practice Of Trust Book.\n \nAmal Bisharat (she/her)\n \n\nAmal Bisharat (she/her) is a Palestinian American multidisciplinary artist: a theatre director\, theatre maker\, producer\, actor\, musician\, and photographer. Bisharat holds a BA in Music and Theater from Minnesota State University-Moorhead and for 12 years worked as a director and music director in partnership with San Francisco Unified School District. Bisharat is a grateful recipient of the Theater Bay Area Arts Leadership Residency Grant (2022-2023)\, Theater Bay Area CA$H Creates Grant (2022)\, and San Francisco Arts Commission Artist Grant (2023). Currently\, she works with Golden Thread Productions\, recently co-producing and directing for their signature program ReOrient Festival of Short Plays (2023)\, and directing an online reading of The Gaza Monologues by Ashtar Theater (2023). Bisharat is also in the process of creating her first musical\, “Mornings in Jenin Musical”\, a Palestinian refugee story adapted from the internationally best-selling novel by the same name by Susan Abulhawa. After many years of hiatus from acting\, Bisharat is thrilled to be returning to her roots this year to play the role of Safiyya in Golden Thread’s production of Returning to Haifa (2024) by Ghassan Kanafani\, adapted for the stage by Naomi Wallace and Ismail Khalidi. She is a board member of MENATMA (Middle East North African Theater Makers Alliance) and also serves on the Community Council for Golden Thread’s 2024 Season for Palestine. Bisharat is also a photographer with her own arts-focused photography company\, capturing the magic of professional dance\, theater\, and music performances for groups like Yerba Buena Gardens Festival\, Sarah Bush Dance Project\, and Alonzo King Lines Ballet. Bisharat believes in the transformative power of art and storytelling whether on a stage\, in a photograph\, or in the stories we tell ourselves.\n \nSophia Alawi\n \n\n\nSophia Alawi is a first-generation Muslim Moroccan/Italian American actress\, singer\, songwriter & writer. She has a BFA in Musical Theater from Rider University. She also studied at T’Schreiber\, Stella Adler Studio of Acting\, and The Barrow Group in New York. She’s so excited to be a part of this new musical that uplifts unrepresented Palestinian voices. She won the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle award for Best Featured Actress – Musical in 2019 for Groundhog Day The Musical and was named one of “Five Standout Performances” in 2019 by the Houston Chronicle for the role of Wendla in Spring Awakening. Passionate about the power of human transformation\, her work focuses on disrupting assumptions about art\, human values\, the environment\, and society. She is the Artistic Director of Aviva Arts\, an Associate Artist with Golden Thread\, a Mitsui Collective Somatic Jewish Leader Fellow\, (Kollel3\,) artEquity arts facilitator alumna\, and proudly serves on the inaugural MENATMA board. Eliezer has devised numerous world premieres and toured internationally\, including writing and performing (dis)Place[d]\, about Iraqi Jews. Eliezer holds a B.A. Cum Laude in Drama Cum Laude from SFSU\, and is a certified Sound\, Voice Music Healing practitioner from CIIS\, and a certified Kaula Tantra Yoga instructor. \nwww.avivaarts.org \n  \nZina Pozen \n \nOriginally from Ukraine\, Zina Pozen grew up in a family of classical musicians\, playing piano from a young age. In her house\, salty Yiddish sayings\, contraband Barry Sisters\, Stravinsky and Poulenc\, traditional Ukrainian and Moldovan tunes\, Utyosov and Dunaevsky weaved their sounds together. After moving to the U.S.\, Zina fell under the spell of the Eastern European Folklife Center Balkan Music Camps and picked up the accordion to play traditional music. Zina plays klezmer\, Moldovan\, Ukrainian\, Turkish\, Armenian\, Greek rebetiko\, and other styles. \nShe was a founding member of Seattle’s infamous (and famously fun) Bucharest Drinking Team. Singing mostly in Spanish\, she creates authentic\, inspiring music at the borderlands between cultures\, languages\, and genres.  \nDiana has caught the attention of national media as well as acclaimed musicians who’ve been drawn to her singular music and intrigued by her life story. From the age of 13\, Gameros has resided in the United States\, and for much of that time\, she was an undocumented immigrant. \nDiana is a singer\, guitarist\, pianist\, composer\, songwriter\, music instructor and social justice activist\, based in San Francisco\, California. She was born and raised in Ciudad Juárez\, México and immigrated to the United States as a teenager to study music in Michigan. Over the last decade in the Bay Area she has released two albums of original songs written in Spanish and English\, and Mexican classic songs. In 2014 Diana received the Emerging Leader Award by the Chicana/Latina Foundation. In 2015 she was named one of YBCA’s 100: creative minds\, makers\, and pioneers that are asking the questions; and making the provocations that will shape the future of American culture. NPR Music gave Diana an honorable mention to Arrullo in best Latin albums of the year in 2017. Diana was named one of SF Magazine’s 100 Artists: Artists Putting The East Bay On The Map\, in 2018.  \nDiana has been highlighted often by NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert contest; series\, and a documentary film about her was released by KQED in 2020. Her music often tells stories of family\, migration\, identity\, and home\, and has led her to perform with prominent performers such as Joan Baez\, Natalia Lafourcade\, McArthur Genius Award winner Taylor Mac and the San Francisco Symphony\, among many other artist from all over the world. He chose oud as his primary instrument and attended classes with Arsalan Kamkar. Other masters he has studied under include Mohamadreza Lotfi (Radif Navazi-Iranian classical music repertoire)\, Mehran Rohani (principles and history of music)\, Siamak Jahangiri (improvisation and analysis of Radif). Upon taking workshops in improvisation with Hossein Alizadeh\, Manhoobi was also introduced to the shoorangiz instrument. He was awarded Best Soloist in Iranian music festivals and collaborated with Ardeshir Kamkar. Manhoobi formed the Bamdad Music Ensemble\, focusing on Kurdish and Iranian classical music. He is a MA graduate of archaeology from Tehran University and has worked with Bahram Bezaei as a composer and tar player for his most recent play\, Tarabnameh\, at Stanford. Emad began learning guitar at a very young age With Bahman Nasri in Pop & jazz then starting with Kazem Moazen in classical. Initially\, It took him twenty years and many souls searching before he found a home in Flamenco\, a style that touched his heart and allowed him to express his deep emotions and passion in a way that no other music could. His love of traditional Persian music\, coupled with expressive and soulful Flamenco music\, created a style that is uniquely his. His first concert in fusion music was in Tehran in 1991 and his first album\, ARG influenced and inspired by the immense culture of the ancient Persian Empire and Magham melody was produced in 1999. He composed several music for TV serials and Short tizer advertisements. \nEmad has also collaborated with the movie industry and has composed the music score for the movie Mum’s Guest directed by Daryoush Mehrjooee & Ebrahim Hatamikia\, Ramin Mohseni\, Sepideh Khosrowjah. He was nominated for the world music festival in 2004 (New York). His last live performance in Iran was a benefit concert for Bam (Kerman) earthquake resulting in a DVD that has just been released. He composed music theater for Tarabnameh 1 directed by Bahram Beyzaie\, In 2006 he moved to the US with new ideas in Fusion\, and he performed his music in Yoshi’s\, Red poppy\, central stage\, the palace of fine art. \nNima Hafezieh is an Iranian pianist and composer born in December 1994. \nHis parents found his talent in Piano performance and Classical music when he was 4 years old\, and supported him to pursue his passion for studying Piano and music composition. \nHe began to learn Iranian traditional music known as (Radif) and took private lessons in music dictation\, theory and composition\, and Classical piano performance from an early age. He studied Piano performance at Tehran music School and graduated with a BA in music composition from the art university of Tehran in 2017. His technique and vision are deeply rooted in Free improvisation\, Quartal and Quintal harmonic structures\, modal and microtonal language\, Middle-Eastern Maqam music\, and electro-ambient music with the influence of jazz fusion. Known for his dynamic and versatile approach\, Aaron has played and recorded with many top Bay Area artists such as Rupa and the April Fishes\, The Jazz Mafia\, Meklit Hadero\, Diana Gameros\, La Misa Negra\, The San Francisco Mime Troupe and many more. \nAaron grew up in Los Angeles\, CA\, absorbing the rich tapestry of music spilling out from its clubs and streets: jazz\, blues\, hip-hop\, classical Indian\, Latin\, funk and much more. He studied drum set with esteemed teachers such as Joe Porcaro and Earl Palmer\, then later with George Marsh\, Akira Tana and Pete Magadini in San Francisco. Aaron is a founding member of Rupa and the April Fishes\, a diverse and wildly talented group who makes a unique brand of music called “liberation music.” Since 2006\, the band has traveled to over 30 countries around the world and shared stages with Manu Chao\, Anjelique Kidjo\, Susana Baca and Iron Maiden. \nAaron is also a passionate and respected drum instructor\, known for his accessible and engaging approach to teaching all ages and skill levels. He is the founder of RhythmALLogy\, an organization which uses facilitated group drumming for building connection\, community and celebration.  \nPaul Martin Sounder  was born to a pianist and a drummer at Druid City Hospital October 3\, 1982 and grew up with piano lessons and baseball practice in bluesy Tuscaloosa\, Alabama. During the magical Summer before high school\, I picked up the bass and guitar and joined my first band\, Forgotten Daze. After countless gigs and a degree in English from the University of Alabama\, I committed my life to music. I moved to San Francisco in 2006 and began playing bass guitar\, Colombian maracas\, and West African drums\, writing music\, and touring the country with an experimental rock band Antioquia.  \nIn 2013\, after performing nearly a thousand concerts\, traveling across the country several times\, and releasing three studio albums and four live albums of original music\, the members of Antioquia decided to stop touring and take time to work on their own projects. Since then I’ve had the opportunity to write and record an album of my original music\, teach and learn from hundreds of fantastic students\, and perform and record with many inspiring musicians and songwriters in the Bay Area\, including three-time Grammy Award winner Fantastic Negrito\, flamenco guitar virtuoso Jason McGuire\, prolific songwriters Heather Normandale and Rachel Lark\, and Cumbia powerhouse La Misa Negra. \nLIVE PAINTING\n \nMara Lea Brown \nis a Bay Area Artist. Her work explores human singularity and relationships through charcoal drawing\, painting and mixed media with elements from nature. Mara was born in California\, grew up in Southern Spain and moved back to the USA as an adult. Incommensurability and a search for connection are always subtly present in her work. In her portraiture\, Mara enjoys the process of learning from the individual as well as from a phenomenological exploration of the human form. In the words of Latin Grammy Nominated pianist and composer\, Jovino Santos Neto\, “Rebecca plays flute with the passion of a flamenco dancer.” An explorer at heart\, she rockets and flows between genres\, one day leading The Rebecca Kleinmann Jazz Quartet with pianist Alex Conde\, bassist Gary Brown\, and drummer Marlon Aldana\, the next day performing with a Brazilian Choro ensemble\, and then later at night jamming in flamenco juergas. \nRebecca’s international career has taken her to perform on stages in Argentina\, Brazil\, Africa\, Europe and Australia including Melbourne’s International Women in Jazz Festival\, SESC in São Paulo\, Birdland in New York City\, the Blue Whale in Los Angeles as well as being featured at the SF Jazz Center\, the San Jose Jazz Festival\, Yoshi’s San Francisco and Oakland\, Piedmont Piano\, the Sound Room\, the Oracle Arena and the Paramount Theatre closer to her Oakland home. She has performed and recorded with great musicians including Hermeto Pascoal\, Toninho Horta\, Carlos Oliveira\, Lionel Loueke\, SK Kakraba\, Airto Moriera\, Fabiano Nascimento\, Ian Faquini\, and Kina Mendez and worked with world-class dancers including Clara Rodriquez\, Melissa Cruz\, and Rosangela Silvestre. She freelances\, records on albums and plays and sings with Dona Francisca Forró Band\, NY based ensemble Heard Music\, and the Taylor Anointed Praise Choir. In the words of master Jazz Pianist Benny Green\, Kleinmann is “masterful and selfless in her ability and inclination of melding her sound with her environment.” With this in mind\, she surely has immersed herself in rich musical environments! \nRicardo Peixoto \nBorn in Rio de Janeiro\, guitarist\, composer and arranger Ricardo Peixoto came to the U.S. by way of a scholarship to Boston’s Berklee College of Music\, and later settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. His fluid melodic sense and original harmonic approach place him among the top representatives of Brazilian guitar in the U.S. today. \nAn inspired improviser with a keen compositional sense\, Ricardo’s unique and eloquent style evokes images far beyond his Brazilian territory. As a composer grounded both in the jazz and Brazilian music traditions Ricardo has continued to explore Brazil’s rich melodies\, sophisticated harmonies and rhythms\, while integrating them with the freedom and improvisational approach of jazz. \nRicardo has recorded\, performed\, and collaborated with\, among others\, Claudia Villela\, Flora Purim and Airto\, saxophonist Bud Shank\, percussionist Dom Um Romão\, Sivuca\, Claudio Roditi\, Raul de Souza\, Toots Thielemans\, Dori Caymmi\, Guinga\, Arturo Sandoval\, Spok\, Jovino Santos Neto\, Marcos Silv\, Terra Sul\, and the Berkeley Choro Ensemble. DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nOrchestral Jazz\, Strings & Film Scores \n  \n  \nA brand new ensemble led by Jazz Mafia founder Adam Theis includes 4 of the most multi-faceted Bay Area string players on the scene: Dina Maccabee\, Alisa Rose\, Matthew Szemela and Lewis Patzner.  The ensemble features many new works written by Theis for the unique instrumentation of strings and trombone.
