SUMMARY:Scott Amendola Quartet
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis quartet is a more traditional “jazz” type setting for Amendola’s music but lacks a chordal instrument. This frees up Ben\, Josh\, and John to move around in ways that only 3 super deep harmonic and swinging improvisors know how. And what’s guaranteed is a non-traditional evening of improvised music. The quartet will be interpreting Scott’s music from his recent record “Lift”\, as well as music from past releases\, as well as some new things\, and probably some music written by others. \n  \nBen Goldberg and Scott Amendola have a long history of playing music together starting in the 90’s. Ben is one of the most creative musicians on the planet. He knows how to own the music. Josh Smith is one of the few horn players who knows how to make texture\, space\, and energy elevate a band\, but also has is own unique way of playing melody. John Shifflett is the anchor that propels the music in creative ways. How does an anchor move things forward you ask? We’ll listen to Shifflett on Amendola’s last two releases (Lift and Believe) as a leader and you will understand. Or better yet come and hear it in person. DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nSafiya is a world music band heavily influenced by Mediterranean\, Balkan\, Middle Eastern\, Central Asian\, Rom\, Japanese\, Latin American\, Funk and Surf music. The band experiments blending these different styles\, in a way that captures a brand new sound while keeping the essence of each culture. The music is energetic and danceable and at the same time very raw and soulful. \n  \n \n  \nCradle Duende presents a combination of Klezmer and Flamenco “klezmenco” with an infusion of reggae-cumbia and balkan melodies and dance rhythms. Cradle Duende takes its name from the Spanish word “duende”\, in reference to a musically heightened state of emotion\, expression\, and authenticity; and a merging of disparate musical traditions that each evolved from independent cradles of civilization.
