Partnering with Ehalakasa\, the Ghanaian initiative aimed at a poetic exchange\, it draws from griot tradition and hip-hop to educate youth on their African heritage. Launched in 2016 with support from the Mills College Community Engagement Fellowship\, WO2WA made a profound impact. The 2018 publication\, “Our Spirits Carry Our Voices\,” led the poets to Ghana for a slam. Since then\, WO2WA conducted exchanges in Kenya and Nigeria\, featuring over 100 pan-African poets. \nhttps://westoaklandtowestafrica.com \nhttps://www.facebook.com/WO2WA/ \nKarla Brundage\nKarla Brundage is a Bay Area-based poet\, activist\, and educator with a passion for social justice. SUMMARY:SFIAF - Music in-Takht
DESCRIPTION:Early Bird tickets are available on the festival website. It is advised to purchase advance tickets for this event. If tickets sell out online\, tickets will not be available at the door. \n\n\n\n\nMusic in-Takht\nBeyond Lyrics: Egypt’s Legacy of Instrumental Music \nEmbark on a captivating musical journey as the all-Egyptian ensemble “Music in-Takht\,” led by Egyptian-American violinist Basma Edrees\, takes center stage. Deviating from the vocal-dominated landscape of typical Egyptian concerts\, this event offers a unique exploration of instrumental finesse\, resurrecting Egypt’s instrumental musical tradition and highlighting contemporary instrumental works. Against the backdrop of current global affairs\, the concert pays tribute to the struggle of the Palestinian people (with whom Egyptians share a musical tradition)\, presenting two pieces by Palestinian composers. Join us for an evening where music becomes a powerful narrative beyond words. \nFeaturing: \nBandleader: Basma Edrees\nMusicians: Moe Elshazly\, Amr Toppozada\, Mohamed Abdelradi (AKA Radi) \n\n\n\nSaturday\, May 4th\, 2024\nTime: Doors 6:30 pm\, Performance 7:00 pm\nAdmission: Early Bird: $20 / Advance: $25 / Door: $30 \n  \n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE ARTISTS: \nMusic in-Takht is an instrumental ensemble dedicated to sharing and preserving Egyptian musical heritage within the San Francisco Bay Area. We are committed to serving the San Francisco Bay Area community with the highest professional standard of musical performance. The ensemble members are devoted musicians who value the mission of this ensemble and with humility\, hard work\, and confidence in their abilities they take the responsibility of being among the “Keepers” of Egyptian musical culture within the SF Bay Area. \n  \n\n\n\n\nPREVIEW THE ARTISTS:\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\nSAN FRANSISCO INTERNATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL (SFIAF):\n\n\n\n\n\nSFIAF celebrates the arts by bringing together a global community of artists and audiences.
