If tickets sell out online\, tickets will not be available at the door. \n\n\n\n\nJimmy Grant Trio: Django Reinhardt & beyond\nExploring the music of Django Reinhardt and beyond.\nThe Jimmy Grant Trio will perform music that follows the traditions of Django Reinhardt and his roots in the Jazz Manouche music (Gypsy Jazz) and Eastern European folk music\, as well as original compositions. \nFeaturing:\nJimmy Grant – Guitar\nNelsen Hutchison- Guitar\nSimon Planting- Bass \n\n\n\nFriday\, November 17th\, 2023\nTime: 7:00 pm doors\, 7:30 pm show\nAdmission: (Online) $20 – $30/ (Door) $30-$35 \n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE ARTISTS:  \n\nThe Jimmy Grant Trio performs primarily in the style of Django Reinhardt\, infusing swing-era pieces\, original work\, and traditional gypsy tunes with the jazz guitar pioneer’s crunchy rhythms and hot harmonies. \nJimmy Grant was recently a finalist in the John Lennon songwriting competition for his original song “Insomnia\,” and also had an interview with Guitar World for his “5 in 5″ project\, in which he wrote five different songs in five days. His style synthesizes a rich blend of Russian folk\, bluegrass\, Celtic\, and classical music while remaining true to Django’s innovative guitar technique. The Jimmy Grant Ensemble will bring together two guitars\, bass\, and violin in an intimate yet energy-charged performance. \nNelsen Hutchison grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area where he began playing guitar and developing an eclectic taste for music at a young age. He went on to pursue his musical education by studying jazz guitar at Berklee College of Music before transferring to the New School for Jazz where he received his BFA in guitar performance. Upon returning to the Bay Area Nelsen began his graduate studies as an MA student in Ethnomusicology at UC Santa Cruz. His MA Thesis explored the critical reception of soul jazz and the ways jazz organists of the 1960s signified conventional performance practices. After completing his MA\, Nelsen continued his studies at UC Santa Cruz where he is now a Ph.D. Candidate in Cross-Cultural Musicology. His PhD research employs ethnographic methods to analyze the political economy of the Bay Area jazz scene and the working lives of musicians. In addition to being a scholar and educator at UC Santa Cruz\, Nelsen also regularly performs in the region as a freelance jazz guitarist. As a performer\, Nelsen has toured with the viral Swedish multi-instrumentalist Gunhild Carling\, performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival\, and recorded mandola on Larry Polanksy’s New World Records album “These are the Generations.” \nDutch double bassist Simon Planting lives near San Francisco but studied Classical bass with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Jazz at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam before embarking on a professional career. He has performed in concerts and festivals the world over and has compiled an impressive discography with artists like Mathilde Santing\, Fapy Lafertin\, Jimmy Rosenberg\, Stephane Wrembel\, and John Jorgenson. Simon Planting is the DjangoFest NW Artistic Director. \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvJl4zlZdNA\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMqDqgpr-sc\nhttps://linktr.ee/ampsmasher\nhttps://www.jimmygrant.net/ \n\n\n\nPREVIEW THE MUSIC: \n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n \nEVENT DETAILS\nFriday\, November 17th\, 2023\nTime: 7:00 pm doors\, 7:30 pm show\nAdmission: (Online) $20 – $30/ (Door) $30-$35 \nNote: A limited quantity of additional tickets will be available for purchase at the door unless otherwise noted on the Facebook event page that the show is SOLD OUT. \nPurchase advance tickets for this event! \nNote: Purchasing an advance ticket guarantees admission but does not guarantee a seat. Holding a BA in music and certified as an Orff music teacher\, Jackeline serves as the musical director for two prominent Bay Area bands\, the “Venezuelan Music Project” and the “VNote Ensemble.” Additionally\, she plays an essential role in shaping musical education as the head of the lower school music program at Park Day School in Oakland\, California. A significant milestone in her career was the honor of participating in Jon Batiste’s premiere of the American Symphony at Carnegie Hall in New York in September 2022. \n  \nAlejo Cordero\, was born on April 25\, 1995\, in Cali\, Colombia. At the age of four\, he moved to San Martin de Los Llanos. It was there\, at the age of ten\, that he discovered the bandola guitar\, an instrument that has since become his life’s passion. While he is the only musician in his family\, his father\, who was the director of the house of culture at the time\, played a significant role in shaping his musical interests. \nAlejo quickly became a highly skilled bandola player and started participating in national festivals\, consistently achieving first place. His talent caught the attention of Carlos “Cuco” Rojas\, the director of the Cimarron band. From 2012 to 2016\, Alejo played the Cuatro Venezolano and the bandola in the band\, taking part in 11 international tours to France\, India\, the USA\, Mexico\, Nicaragua\, San Salvador\, Uruguay\, Argentina\, and Colombia. \nAfter his Cimarrón’s experience\, Alejo enrolled at the Francisco José de Caldas District University to study music at the ASAB arts faculty. In early 2017\, he joined Palo Cruzao\, winners of the Latin Grammy 2016\, and toured various regions of Colombia\, including Valle del Cauca\, Tolima\, Cundinamarca\, and Meta. He also performed at international festivals such as the Harp Festival in Veracruz Mexico\, and the Sunfest Festival in Canada. \nThroughout his musical career\, Alejo has worked as a music theory and instrumental language pedagogue\, facilitated Llanero music workshops\, provided musical advice\, and worked as a session musician. He has performed at prestigious venues like the Movistar Arena (Bogotá\, Colombia)\, the Julio Mario Santo Domingo Theater\, the Colón Theater\, and the Sergio Arboleda University Auditorium. \nIn 2017\, Alejo received his first academic scholarship to study contemporary music technique at the School of Music\, Media\, Audio\, and Technology (EMMAT). During his academic program\, he obtained a second scholarship to study at Berklee Latino in Bogotá\, where he later won a third scholarship to attend the Summer Program Guitar Session at Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2019. In 2020\, Alejo took an admission exam to earn a Professional Diploma at Berklee College of Music and was awarded a $23\,000 scholarship. \nIn the same year\, Alejo collaborated on a song that received a nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the Latin Grammy Awards. This album (“Fonseca and Andres Cepeda\, Compadres.”) later won the Latin Grammy Award. Additionally\, in 2020\, he founded his own music school called Chamarreo\, which aims to train new bandola players with a more universal concept of the instrument\, preserving its native sound while exploring world music. \nAlejo Cordero is the author of the book “Acordes y Escalas para Bandola Llanera\,” which contains 1104 chord diagrams and 840 scale diagrams. \nAs a soloist\, Alejo Cordero drew inspiration from great guitarists such as Yamandu Costa and Tommy Emmanuel. With his dream of pursuing a solo career\, he relocated to California US\, where he currently resides. \nAlejo Cordero dedicates his days to developing new sounds and offering his listeners a world music experience. He incorporates various genres into his performances\, including classical and South American music. Continually inspired\, he creates new music in the hopes of opening doors and introducing the world to a unique and different musical concept of the bandola llanera. \n\n\n\nPREVIEW THE MUSIC: \n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n \nEVENT DETAILS\nSaturday\, November 18th\, 2023\nTime: 7:00 pm doors\, 7:30 pm show\nAdmission: (Online) $20 – $35/ (Door) $30-$35 \nNote: A limited quantity of additional tickets will be available for purchase at the door unless otherwise noted on the Facebook event page that the show is SOLD OUT. \nPurchase advance tickets for this event! \nNote: Purchasing an advance ticket guarantees admission but does not guarantee a seat.
