SUMMARY:Bay Tones Trio
DESCRIPTION:Jazz\, Swing\, Bebop\, Piano Trio\, Interplay \n Bay Tones Trio was first created when Ollie Dudek\, Omar Aran\, and Grant Levin shared the serendipitous experience of providing joy through music to elderly residents at the Broadmoor Hotel. Since then\, the three have worked together intimately to learn to create just the right balance that a piano trio format requires: each instrumentalist providing their own unique voice while producing a unified sound. Only two years old\, the trio sound is fresh and playful while still honoring old jazz traditions. Bay Tones Trio has played throughout the Bay Area and recorded two albums. For this special evening\, the trio will be presenting several original compositions as well as new arrangements of jazz standards. \n  \nGrant Levin – Piano\nOllie Dudek – Bass\nOmar Aran – Drums \nCheck out Bay Tones website here. \n  \nAdmission: $10-15. Doors at 7:00 Show at 7:30. \nTickets will not be sold in advance for this event. Please arrive at the Red Poppy when doors open to purchase tickets. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Fantastic Negrito
DESCRIPTION:Black Roots Music for Everyone \nFantastic Negrito is a man’s truth told in the form of black roots music. Each song helps from the real story of a musician from Oakland who experienced the highs of a million-dollar record deal\, the lows of a near-fatal car accident that put him in a 4-week coma\, and is now in a phase of rebirth despite his playing hand being mangled. Negrito’s music emphasizes rawness and space. Slide guitar\, drums\, piano. Rather than update the Delta Blues\, Fantastic Negrito leaves the original sounds of Lead Belly and Skip James intact\, building bridges to a modern sound with loops and samples of instruments live. But the primary element that drives Fantastic Negrito’s music is his uncut realness and zero concern for “pop” anything. \nXavier Dphrepaulezz – lead vocals\nKaz Sazaki – bass\nRuthie Price – drums \nLike Fantastic Negrito on Facebook.\nGet addicted to their sound and enchant your eyes. \n  \nAdmission: $10-15. Doors at 7:00 Show at 7:30. \nTickets will not be sold in advance for this event. Please arrive at the Red Poppy when doors open to purchase tickets.\n \n

SUMMARY:Teobi's Dreaming: Sunday Performance
DESCRIPTION:A Performative Inquiry into Biology and Being \nThe 2014 Premier \n  \nConceived and Directed by Todd Thomas Brown\nfeaturing Camille Mai\, Ellen Oliver\, Schuyler Karr\, Tiffany Austin\, Adrian Arias\, and Kenya Moses. \nThe Red Poppy Art House is experimenting with its first foray into presenting a multi-performance theater/dance production. We are pleased to announce the production of Teobi’s Dreaming – A performative Inquiry into Biology and Being\, a new work by Red Poppy Art House founding artist\, Todd Thomas Brown. If you’ve been to the Poppy for any of its exceptional programming in music\, you’ll encounter a very different environment this time around as the Poppy converts aspects of its space to draw on a black-box theater aesthetic. Teobi’s Dreaming represents the first step in this kind of programming as the Poppy seeks to support interdisciplinary and/or experimental works that continue to diversify both the artistic content and the intersection of artistic and cultural communities that convene within its walls. Come see what it’s all about! \nAbout Teobi’s Dreaming \nTeobi’s Dreaming is a multi-disciplinary theatrical performance that explores questions on human biology\, ancestry\, and the fleeting moments of spontaneous presence that we experience in our daily lives. Consider how we walk though life confident about certain facts; we know where we live and where we keep our plates\, sneakers\, and laundry\, and yet we are mostly unaware of what goes on inside our bodies in each passing moment. Teobi asks\, where is my spleen? Do I know? Is it that I have a body\, or does my body have me? Teobi’s Dreaming plays upon the idea that our biology and DNA are not aspects of some biological machinery storing genetic information and code\, but rather they represent a continuity of stories\, poetry\, and dreams\, moving forward through time – a bio-poetic organism\, the body-being in which we live. \nConceived as a “performative inquiry\,” during Todd Thomas Brown’s Artist Fellowship at San Francisco’s de Young Museum\, Teobi’s Dreaming engages stillness\, humor\, reflection\, challenge\, and insight\, to facilitate the capacity within us to hold questions that we cannot answer. As the poet Rilke said\, “Do not now seek the answers\, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is\, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually\, without noticing it\, live along some distant day into the answer.” \nCast | Camille Mai\, Ellen Oliver\, Schuyler Karr\, Tiffany Austin\, Adrian Arias\, Kenya Moses\, and Todd Thomas Brown\nMusic | Camille Mai\, Schuyler Karr\, and Tiffany Austin\nChoreography/Dance | Ellen Oliver & Kenya Moses\nVisual poetry/performance | Adrian Arias \nThree Performance Special Engagement\nEvening Performances: Thursday & Friday\, March 20 and 21\, 7:30PM\nSunday Matinee: March 23\, 3PM \nMore about Todd Thomas Brown and Teobi’s Dreaming \nTickets $18 \nBuy advanced tickets here http://teobisdreaming.bpt.me/ \nTeobi’s Dreaming is supported by the San Francisco Arts Commission and the Zellerbach Family Foundation. \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Teobi's Dreaming: Friday Performance
