Broken Shadows Family Band
September 13, 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
$10 – $15Different Roots from a Single Tree
Led by long-time Poppy performer Darren Johnston, this all-star cast of musicians has come together to produce wide-ranging music including raucous violins and exciting trumpet solos.
With an emphasis on lyrics and song-writing, Broken Shadows Family Band is far from lacking in producing a variety of creative sounds – ranging from Western European to Arabic Classical, Slavic choral to Americana and classic jazz and R&B, as well as sounds from Macedonia and Ethiopia. All of these and more make up the eclectic ingredients that add to their family recipe. With rhythms that beg to be danced to, the music of Broken Shadows Family Band focuses on telling stories.
Collectively, the band has played with Meklit Hadero, Kitka, Quartet San Francisco, Incognito Express, Qadim Ensemble, Fanfare Zambaleta, The Nice Guy Trio, Inspector Gadje, and more.
