Modern classical music for viola and piano
A benefit recital for Fundación, Mujer, Arte con Esperanza (MAES) a women’s music and arts cooperative in Morelia, México. The concert will feature new work by Fred Adler for viola and piano as well as other 20th and 21st century works for viola and piano, solo viola and solo piano as well as a video performance from the musicians in Morelia.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Arun Menon studied viola with Simon Rowland-Jones and Andriy Viytovych, and violin with Dona Lee Croft, at the Royal College of Music in London. While a student, he was a winner of the Royal Overseas League Bernard Shore Viola Competition.
As an orchestral musician, he has worked for many years with the Royal Opera House and the London Symphony Orchestra, and as a guest principal with Birmingham Royal Ballet and English National Ballet.
He also works as an anesthesiologist, previously in the British National Health Service, and currently at UCSF.

Fred Adler is a pianist and composer who studied piano primarily with Mortimer Markoff. After studying composition at McGill University he went on to study and practice medicine but has remained active as a pianist and in recent years even more so as a composer. He has studied composition with Bright Sheng and Samuel Andreyev.
His collaboration with Fundación, Mujer, and Arte con Esperanza (MAES) has been very rich and led to new works played in Morelia in May of 2023 with future concerts now in the planning.
The recent collaboration with Arun Menon has led him back to a long-time interest in writing for strings.
